  1. Hotel: 2.5* La Quinta in Oshkosh, WI Rate: $66 Date: 4/17/09 Total with taxes and fees: $82.19 Amenities: Complimentary Breakfast, High-speed Internet Access, Golf Nearby Rate on other sites: $69 at La Quinta and at Travelocity I started bidding on PRICELINE. I bid for 2* @ $36, $38, $40, then $42. All rejected. My impression (based on research) was that I was bidding on La Quinta, and maybe Super 8. Since I could book Super 8 for $48 on other sites, I decided to take the 2.5* for $66 on Hotwire thinking (hoping) it was the Park Plaza in downtown Oshkosh (were I would prefer to be - so I can walk to my destination). See, I figured it was no longer a 3* based on what I've read about it, and it was downgraded to a 2.5* (not much current info on Oshkosh). I believe La Quinta is listed as a 2* upon last impression, so it never occurred to me that it would now be a 2.5*. Plus, there was no 3* option on HOTWIRE. There is a half-marathon (1,091 finishers in 2008) and 5K (720 finishers) in town that weekend, which might explain high rates a bit. I was wrong. I lost, and only saved $3. I'm a little mad.
