  1. Used the PRICELINE link from this forum to begin. Started at $65 with Orlando (Disney Maingate - Celebration), hoping for Gaylord Palms as I have been there previously and it is seriously impressive. Didn't think I'd get it so on on 2nd bid $67 added Orlando (Seaworld, etc) since I'd be happy w/ Marriott Grande Lakes Resort. Denied. Added Orlando (Winter Park), as it has no resorts and would allow me to bid $69. Bidding $69 won the Friday night (4/30) and ALSO offerred me another night which was amazing and I quickly grabbed. Two nights at the Gaylord Palms for $85.72 per night with taxes and fees included. Don't forget about parking and resort fees though if you are planning on a similar booking. Would have added LBV - Downtown but even though there is a chance of Disney the Hilton hotel was lame compared to Gaylord and that's if I got lucky! Besides I would rather bid lower if I had to stay at those properties. I'd easily pay more for the Omni or Gaylord even though the stinky fees add up. Anyway as usual this board was a superb resource and helped me with my start point and knowinbg the zones to use for rebids. Priceline is awesome too. Very happy. My kids will love the 'gators and the other stuff at Gaylord Palms.
  2. Car Rental at Orlando International. After the booking Priceline offerred me a rental car, on the web page. I declined and got a better offer. For kicks I bid $15 per day for mid-size and got / 'won' an AVIS rental for 3 days. This is ridiculously cheap IMO. My only bid was $15, but I couldn't be happier as AVIS is in the Airport unlike Hertz that I normally use. This was substantially cheaper than other sites I scoured. :) It looks like someone got a buck cheaper, but for a first bid I was delighted. Total Rental Days: 3 days(2 days and 4 1/2 hours) Subtotal: $45.00 Taxes and Fees: $31.63 Total Charges: $76.63 Lowest Published Price: $239.97 (USD) Total Savings:* $163.34 (USD) (You saved 68%)
  3. [see my previous priceline win for Saturday, where I 'won' one day at Gaylord Palms @ $71, but was too cheap to pay $112 plus ~$30 in resort fees.] In order to get a hotel for the next night - Sunday 17th May 2009 I decided to start over and stick with resorts. I was toying with switching to 3 ($35-$45) or 3.5 star ($45-$60) but figured I could do that if I had to pay over $80 for a resort. I'm travelling with my son and figured he'd get a kick out of the alligators, lazy rivers, pools etc at the resorts in question since Hilton didn't seem to be available. If Hilton was available then at least we'd get the extra Disney park hours. First bid of $60, in case Hilton popped up. Didn't want my first bid to be $72 and get Hilton. Second bid of $65 (added Universal, which only has one resort) Third bid of $68 (added next zone, no resorts) Fourth bid of $75 (added next zone, no resorts) Fifth bid of $78 (added another zone no resorts) ACCEPTED, Omni Chamionsgate. Cool! I didn't want to go over $80, so I was glad to get it at $78 and not have to formulate a new strategy for the more complex 3 or 3.5 star hotels. I haven't listed the exact zones as it really doesn't matter when bidding ONLY on resort hotels. You have 9 zones to add, plus Universal if you're okay with the one Resort there - JW Marriott Grande Lakes. IIRC it's pretty good and is rated #22 of 392 hotels on TripAdvisor. *Note: car rental: see previous post also about my Avis mid-size car rental from PRICELINE at $15 / day
  4. Finally managed to get a decent rate and hotel at WDW. Last time I got Hilton, which was okay for $60 as it had the Extra Magic Disney hours but I really wanted to get into to either Gaylord Palms or Omni Championsgate. Since I was okay with Hilton I started at $60 just in case. Didn't want to bid $75 and get Hilton!! $60 declined, added Universal $65 declined, added next zone (since no Resort) $71 accepted - Gaylord-Palms Yippee ki-yay Attempted to add another night - declined. Offered me a night at 112. Not bad but fees and taxes pushed it out of my price range. Re-bid (start over) and reached $78 before snagging Omni. I was happy to go higheras (a) People would be arriving Sunday for Memorial Day week coming up and (:) I was pretty certain that Hilton wasn't in the running. At that point I thought I'd either snag Gaylord-Palms for less than the $112 or Omni. I'll do a separate thread for Omni, but basically I got that for Sunday for $78. I don't care about switching hotels as I'm going with my 10 year old. Like me he'll enjoy exploring / experiencing both places. I know the resort, parking and property tax fees are ridiculous but I figure we (people on this forum) are paying less than the majority of people. ** Note:Car Rental. After the booking Priceline offerred me a rental car, on the web page. I declined and got a better offer via e-mail. For kicks I bid $15 per day for mid-size and got / 'won' an AVIS rental for 3 days. This is ridiculously cheap IMO. *I used the PRICELINE link from this site
