  1. Good news is I got a hotel that was not listed on betterbidding.com history for the South Kingstown area (part of the greater Newport area) so here's a new hotel for the list!! This one is quite popular with University of Rhode Island folks due to the close proximity to campus. Needed two nights in Kingston, RI (near University of Rhode Island) for 11/11 to 11/13/2010. After searching determined my 2.5* hotel could have been Holiday Inn South Kingstown, and 3* hotel could have been Hampton Inn South Kingstown. Published rates were $94+tax ($106 total) for Holiday Inn, and $109+tax ($123 tota
  2. Wanted this hotel in particular due to the location. Read some so-so reviews on Trip Advisor, but will take my chances with this one. Last night, first bid was $50 (had a few days, tried to low-ball), by adding 3*, and Montreal, October 16-18. Rejected. Second bid last night, tho no free rebid zones, so changed dates to one night only Oct 16-17 and rebid $55. Rejected. Tonight, 24 hours later, rebid Oct 16-18 at $64. Rejected. Also, rebid the Oct 16-17 at $67 and this was accepted; added the additional night option that PRICELINE offers and that bid was accepted. Check-In Date: Sat
  3. Last minute trip ... wanted 3* in New Haven. Started bidding at $58, got a free offer to rebid $15+ more to get my offer accepted, I chose to decline that offer, and increased my original bid to $65 (a price I noticed people won the hotels at) by adding a free rebid area of East Haven. $65 was accepted. Check-In Date: Friday, August 13, 2010 Check-Out Date: Saturday, August 14, 2010 Hotel Name: Omni New Haven Hotel At Yale University 155 Temple Street New Haven, Connecticut 06510 203-772-6664 Your Offer Price: $65.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $65.00 Taxes and Fees: $
  4. Wanted 4* in Dupont Circle (only) for 7/31 to 8/2, didn't want to wait 24 hours to rebid so knew how high I should get to ($90s with free rebids). Used betterbidding PRICELINE link (of course!)! Bid starting at $72 in Dupont Circle, rejected Added DC Burbs and rebid at $77, rejected Added Georgetown North and rebid at $85, rejected Added Mount Vernon and rebid at $92, rejected Added Alexandria West and rebid at $97, offer accepted (thinking had to bid higher for the more expensive Sunday night, noticed someone today won a bid of $90 for 7/31 to 8/1 (departure on Sunday)) The Fairfax Hotel At E
  5. Quick trip to Philly, opening bid at $70 accepted. Did this via the Better Bidding PRICELINE link. Check-in Date: Saturday, June 19, 2010 Check-Out Date: Sunday, June 20, 2010 Hotel Name: Hyatt at the Bellevue Broad and Walnut Streets Philadelphia, PA 19102 215-893-1234 Offer Price: $70 Taxes & Fees: $18.07 Total: $88.07
  6. Going to visit my sister at University of Rhode Island next week. Have stayed at and wanted to get Spring Hill Suites, but a 3* option in that area came up (though I presumed Spring Hill to be 2.5*) so lowballed a $55 offer to see what a 3* might be. Offer was not accepted. Since I don't have a lot of time, I chose to add 2.5* to the same area, and reduced my bid to $40. Got the hotel I wanted at a great price (and per kayak it was $124, so saved a bundle!). Am just curious what that 3* might have been. Check-In Date: Monday, May 10, 2010 Check-Out Date: Tuesday, May 11, 2010 Hotel Name: S
  7. Hey betterbidders! It has been awhile since I've done any travel bidding. Mostly doing work travel. But my main reason for posting is that I am looking for the nicest hotel I can get in Paris, France. In particular by looking at the posted lists I am only interested in the 4* Paris hotels (not decided on way or another if I will go the Hotwire route vs. Priceline). I am only considering hotels in these sectors (4*) on Priceline: Paris (Champs Elysees - Opera Quarter West) Paris (Opera Quarter East - Les Halles) I am going to be there for a weekend after a cruise with my mom & sister so w

Looks like H
  9. Congratulations, you got your price of $110 for a 5-star hotel room. Your Offer Price: $110.00 Number of Rooms: 1 Number of Nights: 1 Subtotal: $110.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $23.14 Total Charges: $133.14 I tried only this one bid based upon my budget for that leg of my trip, and info I have seen. I had a one-night layover in Hong Kong on my journey from Singapore to Tokyo. I originally was going to stay at an airport hotel, but the price exceeded the budget I had set for an airport stay (more than $200 at a nice hotel). I am staying at the Intercontinental Kowloon (TSL
  10. So I just rebid at $86 for the 3/10-3/13 dates, no luck. :) Did the free rebid at $81 for only the 3/11-3/13 nights, no luck. Will try $86 for 3/11-3/13 in three days. What do you guys suggest as an appropriate bid for that one night if splitting works at $86? Remember, the Thursday night 3/10 is the one that is more expensive than Fri-Sun 3/11-3/13. I'm going to wait first bidding for the 3/10 night before having a positive result with the 3/11-3/13 dates on PL. If I keep rebidding at $5, but if it hits $100 and no hits, I will take WillTravel's advice and book something direct. Maybe
  11. Hey you never know, I had luck no reason why you won't either! Look forward to seeing how you fare with PL for your trip to the Big Easy!
  12. I figured there was something up with that suggested retail price. I will ignore it going forward, thanks thereuare. So I will focus on $86 next for those nights. I have no problem splitting my nights. Let me know your suggestions on how I should go about it and I'll consider them before rebidding the nights all in one lump sum. Thanks!!
  13. (An edit of my posting on TripAdvisor FYI) I stayed only one night at this hotel on June 2, 2004. I was going to stay with a friend the first night in Miami but wanted to see what Priceline could give me for 4 stars under $80 - well I got this hotel, and I was pretty happy! I arrived there and walking into the lobby I was quite surprised that the photos I had seen were not as good as the reality! The very playful, comfortable funky lobby - with this great quirky furniture - felt something akin to small comfy stools, and a great big centerpiece set of stools with a huge lamp shade in the cen
  14. :) I've tried three bids so far for a 5* in Warsaw: $75, not accepted $76, not accepted $81, not accepted The suggested retail price for a 5* 3/10/2005-3/13/2005 is $92, at $80 I got the "small chance of being accepted", at $81 no such message. I'm surprised how low the suggested retail price is - normally in my experience this (for other cities) is much much higher, and given that I'm bidding close to that range and it is not accepted makes me wonder. Could this $92 be a glitch/wrong? What does anyone suggest my next bid should be? Has anyone ever bid at the suggested retail price and stil
  15. What a story - Some of these off-the-beaten path stories are absolutely HYSTERICAL! I think I may have a similar experience going to Turkey and visiting a friend of mine who lives in Selcuk, an hour flight, or multi-hour train ride from Istanbul - we'll see... Well with the help of this board and any success at Priceline I may have a good set of lodging choices at least. 90 days to pay for hotels ugh... But I'm not complaining it will be well worth it! I'll post future activity with hotels. Thanks thereuare. p.s. congrats on the new addition to your family! i caught some of those posts t
