  1. So far I've used it three times. Once when I was bidding in a small zone near Grand Rapids MI, and was almost 100% certain it was the HI Express that my roommate wanted. It was a big discount at $63.14, and I tried bidding in that zone for up to the total price of the Top Secret listing, but couldn't get it accepted. The next time I was trying to find a nice hotel for my Mom in downtown Chicago, and Travelocity had a low price on a 4*. I grabbed it since I was too busy to wait for the bidding process and she was already in town. The hotel ended up being the Hilton on Michigan Ave, which was nice enough. Not close enough to the stuff she wanted to be close to, but it was good for last minute. I got it for $95.46. Then last week I needed a room in Chicago and wanted a nice hotel. It was already past 11 pm, so I quickly looked at Hotwire and Travelocity. I found a 3.5* in ORD for $66.50 after tax, way better than anything I found on Hotwire. I grabbed it fast since it was getting so late, and ended up with the Crowne Plaza, which is actually listed as a 4* on Travelocity. I found that interesting since I deliberately wanted to get something less than a 4*, hoping to wind up with free parking. Although Crowne Plaza does charge for parking, they do have quite a few handicap spots out front that are free - I was very happy! It was $101.87 less than retail. I have noticed that I rarely see anything more than a 2 or 3 star hotel in Top Secret. It makes me wonder whether some nicer hotels don't reveal their true "star" rating, especially since the 3.5* was actually a 4*. I look at the list of retail hotels and Travelocity lists too many in the 2* zone especially. I think I would use Top Secret more if they had a 2.5* zone as well. Most Top Secret hotels are 2* from what I've seen. Sometimes the rates are ridiculously low, I saw one for $29.59 after tax, and taxes were only $3.05 so obviously Travelocity isn't charging fees like Priceline and Hotwire do.
  2. Excellent deal! Only thing I don't like about this hotel is 2 double beds are expensive at $496.46 total [with 10% off winter sale, first night nonrefundable offer], and king being $392.58 total [ditto]. Much, much more than a king! Oh well, very nice deal anyway and maybe they'll let me have 2 doubles. So glad I didn't get the Palmer House!! Have gotten this hotel before on Labor Day weekend, but at $90. Previous bids include 3.5* NMA @ 50, 60, 70, 80; 4* MLGP @ 50, 55, 60, and won 65! 3. Forgot to post this one. I was trying for the Sheraton since the people I booked this for needed two beds, so I was avoiding the 3* Residence Inn. Of course this hotel has 1 bed or 2 bed suites only, with the latter being much more expensive. However, the 1 bed suite does have a pullout sofabed and they liked the property so all is good. When I called to make sure they have a non-smoking building [there's only 1 out of 12], the guy was very nice. They were trying to avoid a convention hotel, which one told me was $109 but another said $200. The regular rate is $129.20 [$580.22 total] according to their web site. Here's the room subscription: Studio Suite 419 sq.ft.; 1 King bed and full sized sofasleeper; 2 person dinette; partial living room area; furnished patio or balcony; fully equipped kitchenette, refrigerator, dishwasher, and washer/dryer; shower/tub combo, sleeps 4. Rollaway is not suggested in this room. 4. Bidding history: $48 3* Downtown, $62 counter $41 3* University Center [i wanted to see if I would get a counter here too] $54 3* Downtown + Pittsburgh North - Allegheny Valley [1 of 2 free rebid zones] I won't be staying at this hotel, they wanted the Doubletree, that's why I was bidding for 3*, but oh well it looks nice. The retail rate on Marriott.com being $269 [$306.66 after tax vs $69.12 with Priceline - wow, I really wouldn't like to be paying retail!]. There is a parking fee of $4.25/hour or $16.50/day, or valet at $24/day. Amazingly it has free Internet access, wired in the guest rooms and wireless in meeting rooms. Marriott Pittsburgh City Center Pittsburgh Downtown 112 Washington Place Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15219 412-471-4000 Check-In Date: Sun, May 17, 2009 / After 03:00 PM Check-Out Date: Mon, May 18, 2009 / 12:00 PM Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $54.00 Subtotal: $54.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $15.12 Total Charges*: $69.12
  5. A new reported hotel! I actually paid $63/night with $5 bonus cash I had [up to $25]. The only other hotel in this area, Morning Glory Inn, doesn't have a couple amenities that Priceline guarantees 2.5* hotels have, so I'm assuming it's a 2*. Google Maps identifies a couple other hotels, but one is a travel agency, and the other is tavern. So I felt really good about getting this hotel before I booked! I would have tried other bids, but I didn't have any rebid options, and the date is fast approaching. I'm thrilled since the regular rate is $152/night or $693.12 total [i paid $301.51 total]. This property offers free hot breakfast and free Internet [wired in rooms, wireless in lobby], although charges for parking $14/day. The parking charges seem very common around the university, with most properties I checked just under $20. There is an indoor swimming pool and whirlpool, although the fitness center is off-site for $11/day. I won't be staying at this hotel personally, but my friend requested this property since it's close to the orthopedic surgery center for the university medical center [she's having surgery]. Holiday Inn Express Hotel & Suites Pittsburgh South Side Pittsburgh South Side 20 South Tenth Street Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania 15203 412-488-1130 Check-In Date: Sun, Apr 12, 2009 / After 03:00 PM Check-Out Date: Thu, Apr 16, 2009 / 12:00 PM Bonus Cash Per Room, Per Night: $5.00 Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $63.00 Total Offer Price Per Room, Per Night with Bonus: $68.00 Total Charges to your Credit Card Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $63.00 Subtotal: $252.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $49.51 Total Charges*: $301.51 I did use the PRICELINE link. @Matthew
  6. A new reported hotel! I was hoping for the Doubletree, but still happy with this hotel and price! This hotel offers free WiFi and complimentary breakfast. I've stayed at the Residence Inn before and love them. I won't be with on this trip, but I'm sure my boyfriend and his father will love it. My bidding history: start $40, counter of $52, since I had 4 free re-bids I divided $12 by 4 to come up with the $4 more for each re-bid. I guess I could have done $2 or $3 since I believe I can go back to the first bid for $52, but I wasn't sure. Oh well, it's only a couple dollars per night. Lowest prices on Marriott.com: $139/night + taxes [total of $459.74 after estimated taxes] Interestingly enough, that rate is the same for both studio and 1-bedroom suite, with the suite offering a separate room for the bed and 2 TVs. I checked the reservation number Priceline gave me, and online it is listed as the studio. Residence Inn Novi Detroit 27477 Cabaret Drive Novi, Michigan 48377 248-735-7400 Check-In Date: Sat, Jun 6, 2009 / After 03:00 PM Check-Out Date: Tue, Jun 9, 2009 / 12:00 PM Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $44.00 Subtotal: $132.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $24.34 Total Charges*: $156.34 I did use the PRICELINE link. @Matthew
  7. $57 is apparently my lucky number as it's the same number I used last time to get this hotel. I didn't try any other bids. Lowest price on Hyatt.com: $199 + taxes Hyatt Regency Chicago Millennium Park, Loop & Grant Park Area 151 East Wacker Drive Chicago, Illinois 60601 312-565-1234 Check-In Date: Wed, Mar 4, 2009 / After 03:00 PM Check-Out Date: Thu, Mar 5, 2009 / 12:00 PM Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $57.00 Subtotal: $57.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $16.14 Total Charges*: $73.14 I did use the PRICELINE link. @Matthew
  8. Although I didn't stay there, my parents said the rooms were excellent, although maybe a little small. Also, I got a PM from a user asking me more info: Sorry for the delay, I haven't been on the site since you sent the message. As I said in my post, my PRICELINE bids for MP were 50, counter 64, 55. I stopped at 55 since I decided the risk for Palmer was too great and NMA was a better option since the theatre my parents were going to was in that location. Of course in the end we ended up driving to breakfast in MP, and then I dropped them back off at theatre, but oh well. It seems like Hyatt Regency is offering a lot of inventory. Good luck! @Matthew
  9. Another win at the Hyatt Regency, and what a nice hotel it is! Every time I drive by it I want to stay there., and although I won't be staying there, hopefully I'll get to go inside! I originally tried 4/4-8 at $57 as well, but that bid failed. I'm going to try 4/4-6 for 3* Skokie/Evanston hoping to score the Doubletree, I went $50-65 tonight in rebids, but in no hurry since it's more than a month away. Seems like most hotels will hold their inventory until late since most schools are on spring break that weekend. I know since cheap airline tickets were a little hard to find, ended up booking $100/person RT DTW-ORD. Lowest price on Hyatt.com: Monday @ $259, Tuesday @ $239 Hyatt Regency Chicago Millennium Park, Loop & Grant Park Area 151 East Wacker Drive Chicago, Illinois 60601 312-565-1234 Check-In Date: Mon, Apr 6, 2009 / After 03:00 PM Check-Out Date: Wed, Apr 8, 2009 / 12:00 PM Reservation and Billing Information Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $57.00 Subtotal: $114.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $25.59 Total Charges*: $139.59 @Matthew
  10. Looks like a nice hotel with recently renovated rooms [August 2008]. Bidding history: MP 50, counter 64, 55 [ended up wanting to avoid this area because of Palmer House, and farther away from Water Tower, shame since I love the Swissotel and was hoping to get it at 69 after rebids] NMA 60, counter 77, 65, 70 WON Millennium Knickerbocker Hotel Chicago 4 Star North Michigan Ave - River North Area 163 East Walton Place Chicago, Illinois 60611 312-751-8100 Check-In Date: Fri, Jan 30, 2009 / After 03:00 PM Check-Out Date: Sat, Jan 31, 2009 / 12:00 PM Amenities: Remote control TV w/ premium channels Telephone w/ voicemail Radio Alarm Clock Iron and ironing board Hairdryer Business services 24 hour front desk Full Service Restaurant Room service Bellman Concierge Fitness center access Your Offer Price Per Room, Per Night: $70.00 Subtotal: $70.00 Taxes & Service Fees: $18.25 Total Charges*: $88.25 I used the PRICELINE link from this web site.
  11. Thanks for the feedback thereuare. I've only successfully won one 1* bid, and that was for a Studio Plus that was recently converted into an ExtendedStay Deluxe in the Chicago O'Hare area. I wasn't expecting to get accepted at that low of a rate, although given the rates on the island, I would be pleased with something cheap. All I really want is a bed and a shower, if I could I would rent an SUV to sleep in and go to a rest area with showers, haha. However, my travel companion seems a little more needy, lol. Again, thanks for the help, next time I should post for assistance. @Matthew
  12. This was an excellent hotel, Residence Inn is my new favorite brand with Marriott [the other being Courtyard]. We were placed on the first floor, and although it seemed like no one was in our little building, the breakfast the following morning showed otherwise. The staff was very friendly, and the breakfast attendant did a wonderful job, plus there was a lot of food, she even got me more hot water for my tea. Wireless Internet was included and worked fairly well. I asked for a print out to see what the two level suite looks like, and it does look really neat. Of course at Priceline's rate, I would probably just book two rooms. Amazingly even the pull out bed was comfortable, I slept on it. The only problem with the room was some fuzzy TV channels and the window wouldn't open or close since the track was bent. The hotel was conveniently located off the interstate and two major roads, tho I couldn't hear any traffic. It was extremely close to the dinner theatre we were going to. Shopping malls were fairly easy to get to. I highly recommend this property.
  13. Finally, been trying for a hotel in the USVI for a while now. Last bid of $125, regular rate of $314, so I'm glad I got a good rate on this hotel. I just realized I made a mistake thinking I was getting a free rebid at $145, but I was actually only rebidding on Resort since it's technically a 4.5*, doh! I totally had that backwards in my head, should have bid 3.5* STT and then added STJ for one free rebid. Here's my history [may have bid lower to start, only wrote down the high bid]: 1/26: 2/1-5: R@145 1/26: 2/2-5: R@135,3.5@125 1/22: R,3.5@120,3@90,2.5@80,2@70,1@55 1/21: R,3.5@100,3@80,2.5@70,2@60,1@45 I did check my reservation on the Marriott web site, and it has me booked in "Guest room, 1 King or 2 Double, Resort view", tho I'm not surprised. Hopefully with the economy like it is, most people are staying home and they'll be willing to upgrade me to an ocean view room. I'll try to remember to update this thread on the results of my stay. 14. Hotel newly confirmed! Upgraded from a 2.5*, first bid of $45 rejected, counteroffer $58, tried only one free rebid (Speedway) of $52, accepted! Looks like a nice hotel, I checked my confirmation on Marriott and it says I'm booked in a Queen Studio with Sofabed [they also offer Kings w/ Sofabed and 2 Bedroom Bi-level Suite]. The queen and kings are on a holiday promotion of $79 plus $11.85 tax, and the studio is $129 plus tax. I was trying for the Country Inn and Suites [ http://www.countryinns.com/indyin_north ] since they have a pool, as well as free WiFi and breakfast. Thankfully the Residence Inn has free WiFi and hot breakfast, as the only other confirmed 3* Embassy Suites looks like they may charge for Internet [and their pool is closed until Feb 1, who knows what other construction may be going on].
