Logo
We Will be going to Australia (Sydney & Great Barrier Reef) next October/November (2005) and traveling with 2 other couples (6 people total). How should we approach booking through Priceline? What kind of strategies should we use? Should one person book 3 rooms to be sure we all get the same hotel? Are we better off trying now (so early in the game) or waiting to closer to our departure? We are all Priceline novices and would GREATLY appreciate your patient advice! I didn't think there was anything through Hotwire, but again, I might have missed it.I've noted that in Sydney, the Marriott has been posted many times as the winning 5 Star Hotel (and at incredible prices). Can we be certain of getting it -- are there other 5 star Sydney hotels that have been available? I didn't see any others, but may not have been looking in the right places.I've found nothing on hotels in the Great Barrier Reef area. Does anyone have any suggestions? We would like to stay in the Port Douglas area (unless we can snag one of the really wonderful upscale resorts at a reasonable price!)We are also going to New Zealand, but I will post that as a separate topic. Many thanks for any help!Logo Link to comment
marie_scotland
we stayed in the Marriott in Sydney at the start and end of our holiday - its great - well worth the 70-odd dollars we paid for it in November. search for my other posts and you will get more details. it seemed to be the only 5 star that came up. location is perfect - 1 min walk from Circular Quay - we were on the 25th floor and had a perfect view of the opera house at the start and the harbour bridge at the end of our holiday.we also did Melbourne and Brisbane and Fiji.We stayed in Cairns too - best sites I found for Oz bookings was ratestogo.com.au and wotif.com.au. you can also use lastminute.com.auwe had 3 and a bit weeks in Oz and absolutely loved it - have a great time.Marie Link to comment
wacky4alanis
Great advice - wotif was great for cheap rooms during the off-season. We got a beautiful hotel in Cairns for a very reasonable price. And the Sydney Harbour Marriott at $75/night from priceline was amazing! Link to comment
southbay
Stayed at Marriott for 6 nites last Dec. Great Location, and wonderful hotel, but prices from the $75 level may have gone a bit?? Link to comment
LHFlyer
I got the Sheraton On The Park Sydney for $80 but that was about 1.5 years ago. Great hotel as well. Link to comment
