Priceline Hotel: 5* Las Vegas (Strip) Venetian

Just to confirm (i'll supply a strategy after you reply)... i think this is going to be well in excess of $200/nite. Are you willing to spend that much when a place like Paris is going for $129, the Monte Carlos may be available for $89/nite?

Neither are up to the calibur of the Venetian or Bellagio, but likewise i don't think the Venetian or Bellagio are worth double or triple the price.

Even on priceline, you think it will be over $200? If I'm not leaving till 1/26 should I wait to try again. I just tried 110 and 119 and was declined. They offered venetian for 299.

Besides, after the venetian where is the next best bet that I can get a deal on?

thank alot

I edited my post above as you were typing, but i believe your current best deals:

Paris for $129 thru their website.

Monte Carlo may be available for $89/nite (it's on request so you have to try to book it and they'll let you know within 48 hours)

Paris is a great deal relative to prices of the other properties i'm seeing... Monte Carlo is fine too if you'd rather save the $40 (assuming you can get that rate). I'd probaby try too book both... if the MC comes thru then cancel the Paris.

You may have a better chance in a week or two... but the other properties may disappear as well :)

In my opinion, Monte Carlo is nicer than Treasure Island, Paris is nicer than Monte Carlo.

I believe both the Monte Carlo and Paris should be cancellable rates (double check since you're responsible for your own purchases), so i would at least try to lock one of them in while you continue to try 5* thru Priceline.

Abe,

There are countless sites online on which you can find hotel reviews to determine which hotels are generally considered bether than others. Tripadvisor would be a good start. Just go to Google and search for "Las Vegas hotel reviews" or search for reviews on a specific hotel.

As far as whether or not anyone has successfully bid for 5* lately, all of the winning bids for Las Vegas posted by users of this site are listed in this same category you're posting in, Priceline - Nevada. The amount it will take to win a bid for the Venetian usually depends on how high conventional rates are at the time of your bid for the night(s) you want to stay. Right now it appears that rates are quite high for your date, so it might not end up being realistic to get the Venetian for less than $200, so if you're dead set on bidding for 5*, you might have to consider going up that high or higher. Personally I would wait until closer to your check-in date for 5* and hope that rates have come down (of course booking something cancellable as a back-up, as discussed), unless you're absolutely dead-set on 5* and have the budget for it (potentially $200+), in which case you could try now.

I went to a few review sites and they all are about the same ratings (the ones I'm looking into). I think the reason is because most people are happy with there stay (as I was in vegas a few times). I really need like an overall rating taken in comparison of all the hotels, or from people who have been to the diffirent ones. You get what I'm saying? I'm looking for a nicer room, would that be at the paris, TI or where in that range? $129 - $169.

About the 5*, I will book a back up and wait till its closer to my travel date. I'm just debating on my back up.

Thank you

Although I have not been to Vegas, I know the number of different answers you get will be directly proportional to the number of people who answer your question. I think your best bet is to go to TripAdvisor.com and read the many reviews for each of your hotel options. Sometimes you get a good idea of the quality of the hotel just by looking at the overall star ratings on Trip Advisor. The written reviews give you really great "pluses and minuses" for each hotel. Just my two cents.

I would rate these hotels as follows:

1. Paris

2. Monte Carlo

3. T.I.

4. MGM Grand

Paris is the newest and most centrally located. Monte Carlo is very understated but nice. T.I. is ok but getting a bit tired, and MGM is too big and spread out to enjoy. But having just returned from Vegas I would put Mandalay Bay at the top of this list. The location may be looked at as bad by some but with all the pools open in the spring it is the type of place where you don't need to leave for a couple days anyway. The standard room we had on the 31st floor was breathtaking, huge bathroom, soaker tub and glass shower. Very impressive place, and blows the Mirage (our old favourite) out of the water.

I think the #1-#4 rankings that Nunu posted were limited to the hotels that were being mentioned in this thread as a possible backup for you, not an overall top four ranking of Strip hotels. Obviously the Bellagio and Venetian are nicer than those four, and Mandalay Bay is generally cosidered nicer too, but Mandalay Bay is also usually quite expensive so it's not really a viable option as a backup in this case (it wouldn't make sense to reserve a backup that costs more but isn't as nice as the hotel you're targeting). In other words, of the nice hotels that are in a reasonable price range that you are considering as a backup, Nunu thinks that Paris is the best. At least that's how I interpreted it...

By the way, am I correct that you will only be staying for one night (1/26)? And if you're in Vegas, I would assume you'll spend at least some of that one night outside the hotel room. Maybe I'm missing something, but I've never seen such extensive research for a backup hotel for a one-night stay. These places are all "nice," I have a feeling that any of them would suffice for one night if you can't get your desired 5*, but maybe your standards are higher than mine. :)

I agree with Senoreit. In Vegas, it's not always about the hotel room, especially if you're only there one night. In fact, it seems like some places intentionally make it so you won't want to stay in your room (limited tv channels, etc.). That way, you're motivated to go hang out in the casino and spend your hard-earned money. All of the above hotels are nice- the only consideration should be LOCATION. Sometimes too many choices can make a decision harder... ;-)

These rankings I did were based on the hotels on the original thread. I threw Mandalay Bay in there as well and would put it on top of the others, although the South Strip location is not like by some. If you are wandering around the strip then Paris would be the choice.

Hi there its me again, just wondering if you think I should try priceline again, or should I wait still. I see on Hotwire 5* is $240. I tried Priceline tonight just once at $100 and they offered $213 for a 5*. I booked a cancelable night at TI for $159 (its close to the convention I'm attending) so I have some time.

Thanks again.
