BigCheese
The Historic Powhatan Resort Williamsburg3601 Ironbound Road, Williamsburg, VA, 23188(757) 220-1200Trip advisor 3.5 out of 5Tried for days on Priceline 3* hotel, starting at $45 going up in $5 increments. Gave up at $60 since Hotire was offering a 3 star for $58, so no point in going further. Decided that an unnamed condo might be better for a 3 day stay since we may want to be in the room on occasion. Thanks betterbidding!Hotel rate per night - Hotwire hot Rate: $73.00 Nights: 3 Rooms: 1 Subtotal: $219.00 Tax recovery charges and fees: $30.13 Total price: $249.13Amenities Resort, 1-Bedroom Suite, Fully-equipped Kitchen, Free Parking, Air Conditioning, In-Room Laundry, Fitness Center, Pool(s), Restaurant(s), Business Center, 24-hour Front Desk, Laundry Facilities, High-speed Internet Access, Golf Nearby, Tennis Nearby Link to comment

Gallus50
Hi BigCheese - We have stayed at Powhatan before and are staying there again in early October in a 2-bedroom. (Booked thru VRBO, not HOTWIRE or PRICELINE) We had a good experience and expect to again. But after reading reviews in TA, it seems like there is a HUGE difference between renovated and un-renovated condos. On our previous trip, I requested a renovated condo upon check-in and was pleased with it. I suggest you do the same. It may be a bit tougher with an HOTWIRE booking, but if you persevere, you will most likely be rewarded. From what I can tell, it's totally worth it. All in all, the resort is a lovely place, with nice pools, mini-golf and an actual historic plantation house. Good luck and enjoy. Link to comment
BigCheese
Thanks Gallus 50That was good advice. My husband rang last night (we live in the UK) and has requested a renovated room which they say has been allocated to us. We will probably ring the day before, too, to be sure. From reading reviews there seems to be a huge difference between the renovated rooms and thiose which have not been done yet! Thanks everyone. Link to comment

BigCheese
Post stay commentsThe resort is quite nice, the grounds are pleasant, we did ring twice (once from UK and once the day before) to ensure we had a renovated room, Yes they said. When we got there we were NOT that impressed with the room, the size was great, beds good but it was somewhat sad. We had unpacked (silly us) for a 3 day stay and that evening I did question whether we had a renovated room..... Why Yes was the reply these condos were renovated about 5 years ago!!!!!! They did offer to move us if we packed up immediately but we couldn't be bothered. So the moral is WHEN was it renovated? It was a great location for Williamsburg, Yorktown and Jamestown.BTW we did take them up on their offer for a timeshare talk (90mins of our time and they did stick to 90mins). Of course we had no intention whatsoever of buying one, you have to be determined not to be swayed on this. For this we got 2 free 2 day tickets to Williamsburg which saved us $46 each.
