Hotwire Double the Difference ??

I think I am having a senior moment here. I have used the claim before, but now it is not making sense. I see a hotel that is $400.00 + tax=459.00 on hotwire. Now I found on the hotel website a room for $99.00.

SO does it go like this 400 - 99 = 301 x2=602 refund + 459.00 = a net refund of $143.00? Doesn't seem like much with such a price discrepancy.

Any thoughts?

Hotwire Rate: $400

Traditional Rate: $99

Difference: $301 = ($400-$99)

Double the Difference: $602 = ($301 x 2)

Net cost for room: $459 - $602 = -$143

(so in this instance the room would be free and you would profit $143)

It may not seem like as much as it should because you also paid an inflated amount for the room.... but a free room plus money in your pocket is a great deal no matter how you slice it! :)
