TRAVELOFTEN
I'm planning to be in Las Vegas on Saturday, February 21st but it is not for sure and its going to be a last minute decision. Are you able to bid on Priceline the night before or even the same day you plan on staying in the hotel or is there any kind of time restrictions I should know about?Thank you! TRAVELOFTEN
I know Saturdays are usually the most expensive night in Vegas. I'm looking for a 4* or 5* somewhere on the strip. Don't really care where it is as long as it is on the strip so I can walk to all the other hotels. What is my best bet to get the best possible deal? My stay will just be for one night, on Saturday 2/21. I do plan on trying the $20 trick at check in also for room upgrade. Any help is greatly appreciated! I have no idea where to start bidding at realistically and thought people may have more experience here. Link to comment
thereuare
Welcome to BetterBidding! Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread. You can place a bid up until 11pm Eastern Standard Time on day of check-in (NOTE: this is not local time, but rather Eastern Standard Time). However, some hotels dont' participate in, and therefore don't make inventory available, for same day check-in.Please wait until your plans are firm to ask for a PRICELINE bidding strategy or help identifying hotels on HOTWIRE since strategies are based upon current prices (which will likely change between now and when you're ready to bid) and the strategy may differ depending upon how much time you have before your check-in (ie- if you have time to try again in 24 hours if rejected)Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. TRAVELOFTEN
Thank you and I'll use your referral links for purchase. I'm ready to book the Vegas now. I've confirmed last night that I will definitely be there on Saturday, February 21st. So can you reference my 2nd post in this thread and help me out here? Or can you delete this whole topic so I can create one specific to my stay? Link to comment
thereuare
We'll continue this thread for your stay, no need to start a new one...Don't really care where it is as long as it is on the strip so I can walk to all the other hotels. There are some properties which, while in the boundarieis of the "strip zones" are actually located off-strip (two examples: Trump International and the Westin)... would these be acceptable outcomes or would you like to avoid these properties? What is your maximum budget? Are you willing to pay more for a 5* vs. a 4* OR are you looking for the least expensive 4* or better for this stay?Let us know the above and we'll advise accordingly. TRAVELOFTEN
Hello and thanks for the prompt response. I would like to avoid properties that are not actually located on the strip. I'm looking to try and spend no more than $100 for the one night. I'm looking for the least expensive 4* or better for the stay. Thanks!I'm thinking like MGM, Luxor, Mandalay, NY NY, Mirage, etc. Link to comment
thereuare
I think you're going to have to "give" somewhere...PRICELINE is not an option since its strip zone contains properties which are slightly off the strip. The same applies with HOTWIRE, but at least there you can reasonably take an edcuated guess to make sure the property you're purchasing is not located off-strip. Searching HOTWIRE for your dates deosn't show anything at the 4* or higher within your budget. So you'll like need to be willing to accept a slightyl off-strip location, lower your star rating, or increase your budget. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Your thoughts? TRAVELOFTEN
What are the odds via Priceline of getting one of the 4* on the strip? I believe there are alot more on the strip than slightly off of the strip, so I would assume my odds would be better? Most of the people I see post their wins here have gotten "on strip" hotels. thereuare
There are more hotel on the strip than off the strip, so that is one way to look at it... but if the off-strip hotels have lower PRICELINE rates than the on-strip hotels... then you're much more likely to end up off-strip.The hotel you receive is not a "random event" (thanks stats class 402) so you just can't go by the shear numbers of hotel on the strip vs. off the strip. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. TRAVELOFTEN
Ok, so where does this leave me? I searched your HOTWIRE link and I'm not getting anything within the budgets I'm looking to spend. That only leaves me with Priceline option. I'm willing to gamble and take my chances. So based on the information in the above posts, where should I begin?I'm more looking for something on the South Strip (Mandalay, MGM, Luxor, NY NY) if I had my choice. I understand I can select just that territory to start but where should I start my bidding and how much do I increase if denied? I believe I can only bid once every 24 hours, correct? Link to comment
thereuare
We'll suggest a bidding strategy for you to follow, but since price is a factor, did you want to bid for both the North Strip and South Strip zone... or at the moment are you only interested in trying for a 4* in the South Strip zone?Let us know how and we'll advise accordingly. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. TRAVELOFTEN
I would prefer the South Strip Zone (since it also limits the amount of "off strip" hotels)I think $100 for the night should be able to get me a 4* hotel although I highly doubt a 5*, especially being its a Saturday night. I would assume I could bid on South Strip first and if not accepted than always resort to the North Strip or the Central Strip, right? Link to comment
thereuare
I would prefer the South Strip Zone (since it also limits the amount of "off strip" hotels)Actually, the 'known' off-strip Westin (currently 4*) is i the South zone... the known off-strip North zone is The Trump (currently 5*).I think $100 for the night should be able to get me a 4* hotelMy best guess is that if you are successful it may very well be at an off strip property. At the 4* level you have one re-bid zone. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding. (NOTE: Summerlin is NOT a re-bid zone)Select 4* South Strip...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $90If the above is rejected post back and we'll revise to try again in 24 hours. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. pacificboot
Well ... look no further!Planet HollywoodI got Planet Hollywood for the same dates for only $60!So don't bid at $100, I would say start bidding at $50, and see if you can beat me! Link to comment
TRAVELOFTEN
Pacific - Which Zone did you select in order to get Planet Hollywood? Thereuare - If I select the "South Strip" should I maybe start my first bid right at the $100 I want to spend instead of starting lower? Maybe that would help my chances of not getting the "off strip" hotel? Thanks for the help so far guys! Link to comment
thereuare
I got Planet Hollywood for the same dates for only $60!Good information, but not an apples-to-apples comparison since pacificboot's purchase was for a 2 nite stay (retail rate showing at $109) while TRAVELOFTEN's date is just for Saturday nite (retail rate $189)Thereuare - If I select the "South Strip" should I maybe start my first bid right at the $100 I want to spend instead of starting lower? Maybe that would help my chances of not getting the "off strip" hotel? That's not recommended, as you could just as easily overbid for an off-strip hotel, as explained in this thread: Don't Bid Higher For a Specific HotelBased upon the above info i would revise my bidding to at least try a $60 bid, and if successful be happy with that (even if receiving an off-strip property) since the price is so good, but as pointed out above, not sure if it will work since your dates (and therefore rates) are not exactly the same as pacificbott'sPlease use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. TRAVELOFTEN
Ok. What strip zone is the Planet Hollywood in that pacific got for the $60 per night? I'll try that if I don't get anything in the South where I want to be. Link to comment

TRAVELOFTEN
I looked on Hotwire to see what they had available for Las Vegas on Saturday, February 21st.I found the following 2 hotels and I'm trying to identify them. 3* in the South Strip with these amenities : Casino, Fitness Center, Pool, Restaurants, Golf Nearby, Tennis Nearby, and Spa Services. This hotel has a 3.5 out of 5 rating on Trip Advisor with 1520+ customer reviews if that helps with identification. 3* in the North Strip with these amenities: Casino, Fitness Center, Pool, Restaurants, Business CenterThanks for the help! thereuare
Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread. The North Stirp property has not yet been identified... the South Strip property is a match for the Excalibur so that would be our best guess.Regardless of the ID of the North Strip property, if you're looking to be "on the strip" you really don't want to stay in the North zone, as once you get past the Wynn it's not what most consider to be "the strip".The Excalibur isn't luxury, there are usually a lot of kids on the premises, and it wouldn't be my first choice of hotel in Vegas, but it's a decent location for exploring the strip and a one nite stay... if the price is right. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. TRAVELOFTEN
Sorry about that. The only reason I made a different thread is because I saw there were different sections for Hotwire and Priceline. Thought it would only make sense to post about Hotwire in the Hotwire section rather than in a Priceline post here where it wouldn't get noticed by other Hotwire users.Neither of those hotels are what I'm looking for. Thought maybe the South Strip hotel was Luxor. I guess I'll go back to the original plan and make a bid on Priceline rather than hoping something appears on Hotwire!I just tried bidding $60 for 4* in South Strip zone and did not get accepted. What do you recommend my next bid should be tomorrow? I'll wait the 24 hours again since I really want to be in the South Strip and re-bid, just not sure what type of increments I should be raising. Thanks! Link to comment

And it is a good location. Their web site has standard room going for 71.00 a night, 81.00 if you want 25.00 in dining credit. They also have recently updated rooms going for 91.00 a night if that is important. I did stay at the Excalibur before but it was close to 6 years ago. It was clean and we did not spend much time at that casino so it worked fine for us.There must be something going on that weekend, as rooms at the Mirage and Tresure Island are up there. Typically that is where we stay at very reasonable rates. Honest, the rates are high everywhere that weekend for Vegas, so it might be worth jumping on that 71.00 at Excalibur . For example, Mirage is at 199.00 a night, and Tresure Island 189.00. Even Harrah's which I would not stay at, was 145.00 a night. Cheryl Link to comment
