polyj
Now I am trying to bid a hotel room for San Juan from Dec10 to Dec 13. Though I will rent a car during this period, I prefer staying in San Juan. My budget for a 4* and up is $120.I can also live with a 3*, since I probably will not spend too much time in hotel. But from many reviews on tripadvisor, the 3* hotel there is shabby. I will be willing to pay up to $150 for the InterContinental San Juan Resort Spa & Casino, since it is very highly recommended by my friend. However, I understand with priceline, you do not have the choice. I know this sounds fragmentary. I do have a headache looking for hotel in this area. Any advice on the bidding strategy will be really helpful. Like how to choose the re-bid zone, ect. Link to comment
thereuare
Like how to choose the re-bid zoneLet's take it one step at a time and first make sure you have re-bidding understood and from there we'll suggest a strategy for you to follow.Start with this thread: Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and and use this technique to determine the highest star rating in each zone:The way to check what star levels are available in each zone is to open a Priceline page, check ONLY the zone you are inquiring about, and then proceed to the next page (as if you were going to select a zone)... this will give you the available star ratings in that area. You can then hit BACK on your browser, uncheck the current box, check the next box, and repeat the process. It is important to do this before EACH attempt at adding a zone that you really don't want, as new hotels can be added and the star ratings can change at any time. (NOTE: for most users Priceline has updated their interface making the above process easier... simply check a zone and note the highest star rating available within each zone, UNcheck that zone and checkmark the next zone, repeating the process)See if you can determine your FOUR re-bid zones and confirm them with the board and we'll take it from there. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases. polyj
Thank you for the response. I check the priceline for Puerto Rico,It has six zones: 1. Cabo Rojo 2. Dorado 3. Mayaguez - Isabela 4. Ponce - Guanica 5. Rio Grande - Humacao 6. San Juan The hotels associated are: Zone1 - 1&2*, Zone2 - 2,2.5&3*, Zone3 - 1-3*, Zone 4 - 1&2*, Zone 5 - all levels, Zone 6 - all levels. So if I want to bid Zone 6 for a 31/2* or above, I can safely add Zone 1, 2, 3, 4 as re-bidding zones. If I need to lower the bid to 3*, I can only add Zone 1, 4 as re-bidding zones. Did I understand it right? My next question is what's the proper price I should start? Can I simply divide the price on the hotel webpage by half as the starting point? Link to comment
thereuare
So if I want to bid Zone 6 for a 31/2* or above, I can safely add Zone 1, 2, 3, 4 as re-bidding zones.Yes, looks like you have it correct, BUT always doublecheck by repeating the process before you bid to make sure that no hotels have been added to these zones and that a hotels have been upgraded, which might make the above no longer eligible to be used for re-bidding.So using your FOUR re-bid zones and your $120 limit you can try as follows:Start with our link to PRICELINESelect 4* San Juan...Bid $65, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $70, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $75, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* San Juan and re-bid zone3...Bid $80, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $85, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $90, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* San Juan and re-bid zone4...Bid $95, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $100, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $105, if rejected close browser and use our link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* San Juan and re-bid zone3 and re-bid zone4...Bid $110, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $115, if rejected add re-bid zone2...Bid $120Any questions feel free to ask. Please use these PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links to begin your travel purchases.Good luck and let us know how it goes. polyj
I just wonder, why do I need to close the browser every 3 biddings? Link to comment
polyj
I followed your advice, link to PRICELINE through the link, check the resort instead of 4* and finally got Marriott San Juan Resort And Stellaris Casino at $110. Check in Dec 10, check out Dec 13. I checked the hotel webpage for AAA member price is $174. It is a great deal. Thank you for the help. It is a great forum! Now I am getting thrilled for my trip!
