cookofthehouse
This was a new one on me.JFK - $81+Bayside - $91+Elmhurst - $101FailedJFK - $99message to increase bid by $22 without changing any other choices. I tried to bid $119, but it tsk'd me and specified $22. So I put in $121 and got the Sheraton. If the offer had been over where I thought I'd end up (was trying to stay under $140) I wouldn't have done it. But I'd never seen it, so I thought I'd try. Anyone ever been given this message, done it, and then NOT been awarded a hotel?Of course, used the PRICELINE link here. Thanks everyone. Link to comment
dahammer
Thank you for your post and thanks for using the PRICELINE links on the board.you received a counteroffer, which is somewhat common, but can often be undercut by increasing your bid by as little as $5 or less. To do so, you need to keep your "counteroffer" page open (just in case you are unsuccessful in rebidding) and re-access PRICELINE (using the board links, naturally :) ) and change something about your bid, such as adding a rebid zone that has a lower maximum star rating than the JFK zone. Currently the rebid zones are Elmhurst-Corona and Bayside, but these could change in the future. However, its unlikely that PRICELINE's counteroffer will not be accepted. Two weeks ago, I received the ubiquitous $22 counteroffer and added rebid zones and increased the bid by $16 to no avail....I just refuse to accept a counteroffer, I have to try and beat it. cookofthehouse
Ahhh. I'll keep that in mind if I ever get that again. I thought it would probably take less than $22, I just didn't sit and think about it long enough. I've planned pretty much everything to do with a dozen people getting to NYC, including actually buying their plane tix for them. I'm a bit frazzled! :) Thanks! Link to comment
dahammer
well done compared to standard Sheraton rates I'm sure.fortunately, this is a newer hotel, but unfortunately, the area surrounding JFK has few decent dining options....unless you count ordering out for Gereral Tso's chicken :) Link to comment
cookofthehouse
I'm hoping we get in early enough (train from Connecticut) to maybe head to Brooklyn for some pizza & beer. I've never been to Brooklyn. Link to comment
