Priceline Hotel: 4* Vancouver Hotel

Tried to bid on Priceline for 4* hotel in Vancouver on 24-26th July (2 nights) today:

Bid 1: $105 - not accepted

Bid 2: $110 - not accepted (Changed to just 24th)

We are looking for Downtown (Entertainment or West district). On the risky side, from the FAQ I noticed Priceline only guarantees a room for two people, yet we have a kid (12). I'm willing to do 3* but with Priceline area locater we are likely to find ourselves outside the area we want to be in.

Anyone have any thoughts on bidding higher using PRICELINE 4 star vs using HOTWIRE 3 star ($149 is lowest we can find currently for the dates above).

We will also have a vehicle so I suspect we'll need to pay for parking at any place we stay.

Thanks,

-dan

Welcome to BetterBidding!

What are the full list of amenities associated with the 3* HOTWIRE hotel offered? Is the $149/nite price when searching for 2adults/0children or for 2adults/1child? Are any 4* hotels offered by HOTWIRE in the Downtown zone? (if so, what is the price)

At Hotwire, with 2 adults/1 child I'm getting:

3.5 STAR, Downtown Vancouver West: No Smoking, Fitness, Swimming, Restaurant, Business Center, Laundry, Internet, Tennis Nearby: $149

2.5 STAR, Downtown vancouver Entertainment district: Restaurant, Internet: $144

Prices go up from there, only 4 stars left.

So, my questions is would it be wise to book this or try with Priceline to get something "cheaper" at the expense of not having the extra bed possibility for our child. Rates don't seem to be going down or new hotels opening up.

Thoughts?

Thanks,

-dan

The 3.5* property seems to be a match for the Coast Plaza Hotel and Suites so that would be our best guess. If correct, this hotel is going for ~$215/nite for your dates above... so a $150 or so price on HOTWIRE would appear to offer some decent savings and no worries regarding occupancy issues. You can read some reviews HERE.

Assuming this is a correct guess, I would basically weigh the information above vs. how much savings you would need to experience (below the HOTWIRE rate) to make a PRICELINE purchase worthwhile... given no assurance of double occupancy and no guess as to the location of the hotel. You may need to save a lot vs. the HOTWIRE rate, a little, OR you may decide that it's not worth it at all given the 'family friendly' and 'good location' comments in the reviews above. From there you can decide if you want to go with the HOTWIRE hotel above or give PRICELINE a try, and if the latter, what you would like to use as your maximum bid.
