It may be a little low for a 4* (given the holiday weekend) but we can give it a shot.. i'll also recommend raising your limit to $65 as we've seen a few acceptances recently at that level for a 4* in the NMA zone.

This is how i would proceed, assuming there's no preference for any zone of the three (if there is don't bid yet and let us know and we'll re-post a new strategy). You have 4 RE-BIDS available at the 4* level... if you're not sure what they are feel free to confirm them with the board before bidding.

Select 4* Loop/Grant Park and...

Bid $50, if rejected add NMA and...

Bid $53, if rejected add RNA and...

Bid $56, if rejected add re-bid zone and...

Bid $59, if rejected add re-bid zone and...

Bid $61, if rejected add re-bid zone and...

Bid $63, if rejected add re-bid zone and...

Bid $65.

If that is rejected you have 2 re-bid zones available at the 3* level. Start at a new Priceline screen and...

Select 3* Loop/Grant Park and...

Bid $45, if rejected add NMA and...

Bid $50, if rejected add RNA and...

Bid $55, if rejected add re-bid zone and...

Bid $60, if rejected add re-bid zone and...

Bid $65

Let's see how you do with the above and we can re-evaluate 2.5* at that time. If you get any counter-offers let us know.

Good Luck and feel free to ask any questions you may have regarding the above.

From the link you provided:

DO NOT USE THIS LIST to determine what areas to add when attempting to bid again within the 24 hour window (CLICK HERE for information on how to add cities in order to bid again).

Click the link in the quote above and you'll find the correct way to check for re-bid zones:

The way to check what star levels are available in each zone is to open a Priceline page, check ONLY the zone you are inquiring about, and then proceed to the next page (as if you were going to select a zone)... this will give you the available star ratings in that area. You can then hit BACK on your browser, uncheck the current box, check the next box, and repeat the process. It is important to do this before EACH attempt at adding a zone that you really don't want, as new hotels can be added and the star ratings can change at any time.

You should click that link anyway and read thru the thread as it gives a lot of detail and explanation regarding re-bids... feel free to ask any questions that you still may have after reading it and of course confirm your re-bid zones with the board to avoid any mistakes.

Hi. Tried the bid suggestions that was posted earlier, but none was accepted. When I was bidding $50-65 for a 3*, instead of giving the results right away, they had me check back in within 15 minutes or call an 800 number to get the answer.

What would be the bidding strategy if we went with a 2.5* or do you think I should wait and try a higher bid for the 4 & 3*'s?

Your help is appreciated.

It's personal preference if you want to bid higher or lower your star rating.

My guess is that a 4* can likely be had for $80-$85. Don't know if SPLITTING THE BID is an option although i'm not sure if this will help as some sites show the last nite being the expensive one while others show the middle nite (but worth a try if you don't mind changing hotels).

The wait in Priceline's response is just a glitch in their system.. that's how it used to be all the time (so imagine how long bidding took!). When they have a problem with the 'new' system, they revert back to the 'old' system.

Let us know how you want to proceed (or if there are other questions) and we'll advise accordingly.

Took my chances on a 2.5* spot, here is what came about...

BID $45 on NMA, rejected...

RE-BID $50 on RNA, rejected...

RE-BID $55 on Loop/Grant Park, rejected...

RE-BID $60 on Lincoln Park (no 2.5*), rejected...

No luck today, will try raising the bid in 3 days or look for other options.

Thanks for your help. Ciao

Given the 2.5* rejection up to $60 i would consider gradually raising to $85 for a 4*. If that is rejected, QUICKBOOK has a Queen bed at the House of Blues for $93/nite (which is a 4* on Priceline) As well, Hotwire has their own 4* in the mid-$90's.

Just offering other alternatives in case 'push comes to shove'.

Day 3, 2nd at it....I think we have a winner!!!

Checked the Quikbook link that was posted within the last message, couldn't find the House of Blues Hotel at that price, also Saturday was all booked. Then checked out Hotwire and saw a 4* hotel in the Chicago Loop for $95. I tried checking for each night separately and it seem to be the same hotel, but for different prices...7/2 (Friday) for $80, 7/3 (Saturday) $95, 7/4 (Sunday) $81, if book all nights separately, it would have saved me about ~$20 (after taxes and fees). Kept this option in mind to fall back on.

Raise the bid a little and went with the same strategy as before...

$70 Loop/Grant Park, rejected...

$73 added NMA, accepted after the 15-minute wait.

Doubletree Guest Suites Downtown Chicago

North Michigan Ave

198 East Delaware Road

4* NMA for 7/2-7/5

Subtotal: $219.00

T & F's: $41.02

Total: $260.02

Has anyone stayed at this hotel before...whatcha thoughts?

Thanks many. Ciao

Yesterday at 6 p.m., got a call from Priceline, the hotel that was previously booked is full, have been relocated to Hyatt Regency Chicago (NMA) on 151 East Wacker Drive. Have not stayed at either hotels and was quite civil with the "Travel Services Specialist" from Priceline, although I felt that these things should not happen. It seems to me that they are quick to charge your credit card, but not as quick to reserve the room. As I mentioned before, have not stayed at either places and the move may possibly benefit me, unless someone has the heads up on these places and a complaint should be turned in before completely agreeing to the change. Any suggestions or warnings?

Thanks

I would have first made them go thru a long voicemail system to reach me (requiring many punches of the keypad and numerous "sorry, but that number is not a valid seelction") and then reminded them of their T&C and granted them a one time exception to their rule :)

Haven't stayed in either hotel, but i think you may have done slightly better with your new Hyatt property.

Hope it all works out for the best.

I think you have given up a lot. There's nothing wrong with the Hyatt, but you're taking a hit in location (the Doubletree is right behind the Drake and the Westin Michigan Ave, while the Hyatt is at the south end of the Mag Mile) and room quality (Standard Hyatt room vs. a 2 room suite at the Doubletree).

If you're collecting Hyatt points, they will give you a stay credit, so that's a bonus.

I'd call back and ask for a rebate, at least $15/night.

Okay, soon after I got a reply on this site of the loss incur for being relocated, I replied to an email from Priceline confirming the change, asking 'why'. Priceline replied on July 2nd explaining it as "Due to a system error, your reservation was confirmed at the Hyatt Regency".

Now that I'm back, I am definitely glad that the error occurred. Although it would have been nice to have a 2 bedroom suite, I could not ask for a better location for this particular weekend. You are right 'anni1oak', it's just a short stroll to Taste of Chicago, the fireworks, and Grant Park...right behind the hotel. And the hotel is massive, it has everything and thank goodness for the 'Big Bar'...it rained almost all of Saturday and staying in at the Hyatt is very much like going out. The only downside; not close enough to the Red Line or Blue Line "L"...main transportation. Also, the bedroom amenities are not 4 Star quality.

If I were to revisit Chicago on any other weekend, I would prefer staying at Doubletree for shopping and the nightlife (Rush Street).

Thanks for all your inputs. Take care.
