mmhassa2
We need any car for the 3 of us as we'll be driving to New Jersey for a night. I found Orbitz offered a car for around $35 + taxes, but wondering if we can get a better rate? Oh also the rental place needs to be close to our hotel Murray Hill East Suites. Maybe walking distance? Link to comment

mmhassa2
We'll pretty much see the casino and maybe shop a bit and see the beach. We're leaving on Tuesday night June 3 and returning Wednesday June 4th. Thanks Link to comment
thereuare
So i assume this means you're heading south to Atlantic City? If this is your only stop there are busses that go directly to Atlantic City from NYC which could get you there cheaper than renting a car... but not sure if that's something that interests you. Will you be staying at a hotel down there or have friends/family that you'll be visting? mmhassa2
Hi there yes we are solely looking at a car rental for Atlantic city. Link to comment
thereuare
Is the bus an option at all... or do you prefer to drive?Personally i prefer to not drive, while my wife wouldn't take the bus... it's a direct route so it will take the same amount of 'on the road' time as if you were drivng yourself. mmhassa2
LOL yes car is the only route we would like for NJ, and dh wont have a problem driving as it gives us more freedom. As I mentioned Orbitz has it for $35 do you think thats a rate that could be beaten by HOTWIRE or PRICELINE? Link to comment
thereuare
From what location location is the Orbitz $35 rate? Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases Link to comment
mmhassa2
49 MALL DRIVE WEST, JERSEY CITY, NEW JERSEY Show car descriptions Hide car descriptions 5.8 km (3.6 mi) from 149 E 39th St, New York, NY, 10016-0913 It seems like its in NJ, and was wondering since its by Dollar, would they allow for me to pick up from somewhere close to the hotel? Either way I'm open to priceline, hotwire or any other place as long as it's a low rate. :) Link to comment
thereuare
That is a very good rate for this rental..If you rent in Manhattan it is going to be much more expensive, as well, you'll need to deal with tunnel traffic leaving the city.I'm not sure of the exactl location of this rental counter, but it appears to be by (or in?) the Newport Mall, which is easily accessible to mass transit and is easy enough to hook up with the highway to start heading South. If you do go with the above please use our Orbitz link or our link to Dollar.Let us know what you decide or if we can be of further help. mmhassa2
Thanks I found a working coupon which gives me a further 20% off that price, and found a location in Manhattan for around $60, is that considered a good rate for downtown location? Also if it's allowed I can post the code for others. Link to comment
thereuare
That seems 'ok' to me, but as you can see, it's nearly twice the price as if you took mass transit to NJ and rented there.Yes, you can post the code for others. szymon
That drive is no fun at all... the buses from/to Atlantic City run either on the hour and half hour - check out the academybus.com site for the schedule. With the casino bonuses (cash back when you arrive) the bus would be a really cheap way to go.Szymon Link to comment
thereuare
That drive is no fun at all...The only thing worse is the drive back home after a losing day at the casinos :)Just to note, you need to be 21 years or older to receive the cashback from the casino, so one fare (for the six year old) will be at full-cost. Still probably cheaper than driving once gas, tolls, and rental expense are added in. As well, there are now (or soon will be) cheaper an even cheaper option to this area with MegaBus entering the market at the end of May... although return times/schedules are a bit 'spotty' (inconvenient) at the moment. mmhassa2
Thanks the 20% (TARR) applies to any car so thats pretty good. It seems like even without the dicount that location has cars much cheaper than anything in the city. Quick question, how can we go to that location with a bus from our hotel @ Murray Hill suites? Also say if we decide to get there by a cab approximately what fare are we looking at? Link to comment

thereuare
I'm not 100% certain where this office is located, but if in the mall itself:You would take the PATH train from NYC (32nd and Broadway) to the Pavonia/Newport stop... then walk towards the mall which is probably a 7-8 minute walk thru a path of office buildings. If you send me a PM tomorrow i'll call them and ask exactly where they're located and will be able to provide better directions. Please remember to use the link in our support page to begin your reservation. mmhassa2
Thanks SO much, that would be wonderful. I really apreciate it. Thanks again Link to comment
thereuare
Confirmed... they're at the mall:Go to Sears in the mall by the tool department, walk out the main door there (which if the one i'm thinking of leads to the mall parking lot... which would make sense) and that's where they're located. To get to Sears in the mall you would take the PATH train to the Pavonia/Newport stop as described above. Here is our link to Dollar if you go that route. mmhassa2
Thank you so much for the detailed directions! Just another quick question how much would it be for a cab ride? Approximately ofcourse. :) Link to comment

mmhassa2
Sorry I still havent decided if I should go with this location. The reason is:My hubby actually wants to rent a convertible so WITH the TARR code it comes to $70 including taxes but without its around $85 . My main concern is since this code is something I found online what if they ask for any ids? Then I would be left to pay $85. Do you think we can find similar deals without the use of shady coupons? If you think this is still a pretty good deal for the car class and rate I will go ahead and book today as it seems like the price is going up a bit with each and everyday. Also just a last question, since we would like to pick up the car by 6:30pm what time should we leave from our hotel? I mean approximately how long will it take to get there during what I beleive is rush hour? Thanks so much and I will definetly use links from this board to show my support. Link to comment
thereuare
The difference between using the code and not is $15, so if you're not comfortable with it then i wouldn't use it.During rush hour there is no telling how long it will take (and you don't want to be in a taxi, not moving, watching the meter tick on by)... if you're heading to NJ/Jersey City during rush hour take the PATH train, it's an easy decision (imo) Please use this HOTWIRE and these PRICELINE LINKS: HOTELS, CAR RENTALS, and AIRFARE to begin your travel purchases Link to comment
mmhassa2
Thanks I actually meant the time it would take using the train? Also I see you mention the "Path train" is this something different then regular trains? Link to comment
