Amenities:

This property has not yet been identified, but my best guess is that this is the Madison Loews with new amenity icons since previously reported. This property has not been reported in over a year and the property does indeed have a Fitness Center and Spa, which are the amenities not previously reported to be associated with this property.

Went through your HOTWIRE link, searched, got 5 hotels in the Dupont Circle area. Listed same amenities as before, but at $149 rather than $156. Took the plunge and got the Loews Madison as you guessed for $149.

Definately was hoping for the Madera!!!! :) Although it doesnt appear to have been listed in Better Bidding's amenities, Madera does offer in-room spa services per their website.

Immediately re-did search and got the $156 price option again. Wondering if this is for Madera. Seems odd for the fluctuation in price options like that. Probably just picked the wrong 4*. Such is life!

Sorry not the hotel you were hoping for, but at least it was the hotel we predicted so it wasn't too much of a surprise.

I think it is very likely you were seeing the same hotel on each search. HOTWIRE fluctuates their mark-up from search to search in order to increase opacity... so seeing the price change a few dollars is not uncommon nor is it indicative of a change in demand.
