Gill
Hi,Right this is it!!! I am doing a RTW trip and taking in New York as part of my first leg of a 8 week holiday. First time in New York and first time doing a RTW trip!! I am 42 and do like decent hotels!!! I have a preference for the larger hotels and named chain hotels. I want to be in a good area of New York where if I am out on an evening seeing the sights my hotel is in an area where it is busy...no little side streets and quiet areas!!! I dont really want a little pokey room but yes I do have a budget of Link to comment
seningen
Well I'm jealous :-)You should more than be able to meet your financhial limitations, you could practically do that with rack rates.THEREUARE will be a great asset with New York -- read his some of hisnotes here.....NYC PL ZonesI can't seem to find his general notes on NYC -- I'm sure he'll chime in himself. Also take the time to understand how priceline and effective bidding works. You might save enough money on hotels alone to take 12 weeks instead of8 -- and then I'd really be envious :-)Link to General Priceline Discussions Link to comment
BeachBum
For a first timer in New York you'll probably find Upper West Side a bit far from the action. Might want to stick to Midtown East, Midtown West and Upper Midtown. I am used to getting 4* rooms in the Times Square and Midtown East areas for under $125, though I don't usually bid in the summer months. Remember that your Priceline bids are non-refundable. I have gotten good deals in New York on easyclicktravel.com which allow cancellations if you want more flexibility. Have a great trip!- Bum Link to comment
BeachBum
I just reread your original post - forget what I said about not bidding in summer months -- you should get great Priceline rates in late October. The NYC marathon is Nov. 4 which should not interfere with your plans to save a bundle. Link to comment
Gill
Hi,What I have found is that my last night in NYC is affecting the price as that is the Friday night at the start of the weekend of the NY marathon!!!! hence why i want to really get booked up ASAP i think i might just go with the Belvedere then I know it is sorted!!!Gill x Link to comment
seningen
You might consider splitting your stay. What I mean by that -- if the last day is causing issues for booking normally,it will also cause issues with Priceline. You can bid up to Thursday through priceline and then either bookthe same hotel conventionally (ouch! but better to pay for one night at higher rates, than your whole stay) or priceline and expect to movehotels -- but just for that one night.mike Link to comment
