Does anyone know how much a taxi is from the French Quarter in New Orleans to the NO (MSY) Airport?

Also, how long do you think this drive is?

Any recommendations other than taxi as to best method for airport transfer?

Thanks!

The shuttle is usually very convenient and the drivers often give impromptu tours as they drop guests off. It won't be fast, though- budget up to an hour for the transfer.

Swag,

I just took a taxi from the Airport to French Quarter on 13 September (yesterday)

and the rate is still $28.00 but the fuel surcharge is $2.00. I have never been to any

other major city where the taxi rate is fixed. The sign on the window with the charges

did not seem new but with hurricane Ike they may hike the surcharge again.

Regards, Keoni

the flat rate from JFK Airport to Manhattan is $45 plus tolls :)

One major difference i noticed between the flat rate fares in NYC (JFK-->Manhattan) and New Orleans is that the JFK fare is per ride, while the New Orleans fixed rate is tiered depending upon the number of passangers.

Miami also has some fixed rates from the Airport to various points (Downtown, Cruise Pier, etc)

Taxi rates went up last month. Effective July 2009, the new flat rate to/from MSY airport is $33 for 1-2 people, or $14/person for 3 or more.

The fuel surcharge has been dropped.

The shuttle is currently $15/person.

FYI -- There's also a city bus for $2 (the E-2 route) that goes from the airport to downtown's central business district (Loyola & Tulane), which isn't too far from most hotels. Depends on your comfort level regarding city buses and navigating within a new city (vs being dropped off at hotel door).

Also the bus runs only on weekdays, so no direct Sat-Sun-holiday service (on those days, it goes partially to downtown, requiring a transfer). Might be worth investigating as Nola is a rip-off vs most cities in airport transportation costs (i.e. $19-20/person now for shuttles based on one-way-RT or $14/person if 3+ are sharing a cab).

Thanks, travelAlot. You're correct, the shared ride shuttle is currently $20 each way, or $38 roundtrip.

I've taken the E2 bus a couple of times. It is not a bad option, if you're traveling during the hours it goes to downtown, and if your destination is convenient to the downtown terminus at Tulane & Loyola. A cab is $33 one way for 2 people if you are by yourself take the airport hotel shuttle. You signup in baggage claim it is $40 I think for round trip its cheaper and pretty quick too.

Thank you for the info. A local told me about $35 from the airport to near the Hotel Royal at 1006 Royal St. I appreciate the firm info. My flight doesn't get in until 8:30pm so I doubt the shuttle is running.

8:30pm is not that late for an airport... any shuttle service should be running at that time.
