Priceline Hotel: Omni San Francisco

Hello I'm new to the board very happy to have found it Thanks so much!

I've studied as much as I can about bidding and re-bidding

but before I pull the trigger I need advice.

I'm looking to stay at the Omni Downtown San Francisco or the Park Hyatt

$75 dollar range.. 80 - 90 maybe 99 tops. I'm driving so

I'll still need to find parking--$$$ in SF! My dates are

absolutely flexible-- any 3 day period in Jan,Feb or March 2007 preferably mid-week.

Question: How can I find out 'which' dates are the BEST to bid on Priceline?

In other words how do I determine which dates are wide open versus

others which are far more busy and booked with conventions or other events?

There are a lot more 4* hotels in that area than just the two you'd like, so you need to be prepared for any 4* hotel in the zone. If you really only want those two, you may want to try HOTWIRE where you have the ability to take an educated guess as to the property beforehand; this will usually cost you a bit more than winning a hotel on priceline, but you have a greater chance at guessing the hotel beforehand... so it depends if your wants are more important than getting the best price. (but do note that more than one hotel looks like the Omni, based upon star rating and amenities, so even if it looks like the Omni is could be another hotel with the same exact star rating and amenities).

To determine low occupancy (and thus low prices) you can do multiple searches directly at the hotel's website and see which dates are least expensive. Our BetterChecker is a valuable resource in this regard as it saves you time typing each web address and re-entering your dates at each website.

Once you decide upon a few dates let us know and we can try to help further with a bidding strategy, or to help identify hotels on HOTWIRE.

If you're not looking for In/Out privileges for your car and don't mind self-parking and walking a few blocks after you leave your luggage at the hotel you should be able to find parking for about $18 - $22 inclusive per 24 hours. I stayed on a PL bid last January at the Villa Florence and was able to self-park in a garage a block of Market - between Elllis and O'Farrell IIRC and it had entrances on both streets.

The Omni is just one of those magnificent hotels

you're always sorry to leave. It's location, just down

the street from Tadich Grill-- the finest seafood

establishment in America since 1849, and right at

the doorstep to Chinatown's gates, gives the Omni

my Top rating. You know when the doors swing open

and the doorman leads you past huge blooming

stargazer flowers everything will be alright.. atleast for a

few days. Steakhouse in lobby is brilliant too but

very spendy. Overall the Financial district is underrated

for visitors in terms of value, off the beaten path and especially

on weekends when it's virtually empty.

I just noticed a fellow traveler posted unsuccessful results

in the $105 range on PL for this area. SF can be a challenge.

As soon as I bid I'll post my results.
