Hotwire Hotel: New 5 Star Hotel on Hotwire for North Strip

Well,

I am going to Las Vegas from 10 - 15th of September and I am currently booked in the Hotel at MandalayBay.... but I am still looking for something better more central in Las Vegas, looking more at the center with bellagio, Wynn and Venetian.... The prices in general the last week have quite changed to the better.

I have never used Hotwire until now, but I have played around with it..... and for the dates I have entered it shows ( 10 -15 Sep) it shows an average rate of 231 US$ per night. It cannot be the Venetian for two reasons:

1) The Venetian according to their Website has no availability so all for 14 - 15 of September and I confirmed this through numerous other booking channels.

2) The Venetian when showing up on Hotwire is displayed North Strip as a customer favourite hotel, which the hotel I have been displayed doesn't show as well as does the high speed internet button not show

Now to my identification process of the hotel:

When the price of 231 US$ is displayed it shows an average savings per night of 12 US$ against the lowest published retail rate of 243 US$ - I tried to compare this with rates I have gathered for other 5 stars hotel at Las Vegas.

It isn't a match with the Bellagio as their lowest total amount for the five nights comes to 1385 US$

But I have found a match with the Wynn Las Vegas:

On Expedia.com it gives a rate of 179 US$ for 10-14th of September + 499 US$ for 14 -15th of September, if you add this up it comes exactly to 1215 US$ which is exactly also 5* 243 US$ as shown on hotwire as lowest retail rate.... not bad....

so with hotwire you make another in total 60 US$ saving for the five nights, not huge, but also money to take...

so I am of the opinion that it seems that Wynn have been the first time listed on hotwire.....

I wanted to inform the community of my findings, I haven't booked it yet, but for the experts here, could it be that I am right?, I am pretty sure BTW

Cheers

Thomas

I'd research this further by doing split Hotwire searches, one for the cheaper dates and the other for the more expensive dates. See if the amenity decriptions are the same. I.E. if absolutely sure, you could book the $179 rate via Expedia and the $243 rate for the other nights via Hotwire. Also don't forget if you book via HOTWIRE altogether and can prove that there is an overall savings for your entire stay on Expedia or wherever, Hotwire has a double your difference refund policy,...it will match the Expedia rate and double the $60 difference (youll get $120 or so back). Finally, dont foget that most big hotels, and the Wynn I am sure, will match any nonopaque travel site rates (ie Expedia) and put them as a cancellable (within 72 hours of arrival) reservation (vs prepaid like most of the travel sites).

Hope this helps...some ideas to think about.

PS On the split reservation thing, keep in mind that, while you probably feel that there's a 90%+ chance of both reservations being the Wynn, there is always a chance that you'll have to move to the Ventian or Bellagio for the other nites if booked separately. I.E. rooms may be blocked out for some of the 4 and 5 stars and released at last week or so when cancellations or less demand received

I already did the splitting and that is another interesting twist:

if you do 10 - 13 September it will give you the Venetian Hotel - check the descriptions

only when you go over the 13th of September i.e. including the 14 and 15 you will get the Wynn in my opinion

From 10-13th it will give you the 5 star at 171 US$ compared to 169, 169, 199 on the Website which basically is the average.....

interesting twist....

for me the interesting part was that IMHO the Wynn was shown on Hotwire as previous posts suggested ( same with priceline) that only the Venetian shows up for a 5 star hotel.... I haven't made any decision yet - I will wait for tomorrow - because I have the impression that most hotels adjust their rate at the beginning of each week.

I supose this could be the Wynn, but if you look at the second post of the Hotwire Hotel List you will see another 5* hotel listed (besides the Venetian).

You didn't include the amenities in your post above, so don't know if this 'other' 5* hotel matches what you're currently seeing.

Hotwire's retail prices can't be relied upon to determine the hotel in question, as discussed in these threads: Hotwire Retail Priceline and Identifying Hotwire Hotels.

To add fuel to this debate.

I'm looking for a 5* for 25th-26th October in Vegas.

Venetian web site rate is now $199 for each night

Wynn is $239 for each night.

Hotwire has a Customer Favourite with the following amenities for $228 per night.

Casino

Fitness Center

Pool

Restaurant

Business Center

High-speed Internet Access

Golf Nearby

Tennis Nearby

Spa Services

So it's either the Wynn or they're overcharging on the Venetian rate.

I encountered what I believe to be the same 5* hotel discussed here in a recent Hotwire search. I'm planning on going to Vegas with some friends in early March for the NASCAR race. Considering that the race will be in town, I'm not counting on hotel availability -- or prices -- to get much better for that weekend, so I figured I'd at least do a little searching now.

During my searches, I found the Wynn for an average of $479 a night for the time we'd be staying (3/7/07-3/12/07). I also found the Bellagio for an average of around $285 a night. I finally got to the Hotwire part of my search, and found a 5* hotel in the North Strip zone for $459 a night. Checking the list on here, I assumed it would be the Venetian or Bellagio. Considering the Venetian's not been available anywhere I looked, and that the hotel on Hotwire wasn't listed as a Customer Favorite, I assumed it wasn't the Venetian. However, the rate seemed way too high for the Bellagio -- a difference of $174 per night. The amenities listed were Casino, Fitness Center, Pool, Restaurant, Business Center, Golf Nearby, Tennis Nearby, and Spa Services. Lo and behold, those were the same amenities listed for the Bellagio in the Hotwire Hotel List thread here. I started getting a little excited, considering the price difference. With Double the Difference, $174 a night for five nights becomes $1740. That seemed a little too good to be true. I clicked on the link for the hotel to see what Hotwire's listed retail price was, and it was $479, the same price as the Wynn. I did a split search, and sure enough the listed retail price matched the Wynn's for both searches.

So it looks like the Wynn is indeed on Hotwire, listed as a 5* in the North Strip with Casino, Fitness Center, Pool, Restaurant, Business Center, Golf, Tennis, and Spa as its amenities. I'm glad I found this thread rather than assuming it was the Bellagio and going for the Double the Difference. I'd love to stay there, but I would've hated to spend 2,600 non-refundable dollars on it.
