Couldn't resist a second weekend at this price :-)

By the way, some may be scratching their heads: you will not be accepted if you bid on Resort only. The bid gets accepted when you bid for 3 stars. $25 must be to low to be allowed by Priceline as a bid for a resort.

Was Bidding last night got success and booked for the family vacation for the Lunar New Year/President's Day weekend. Can someone confirm if the deal is still valid for other weekends or not? couple of my friends tried to book for this weekend but all got rejected. This is one of the best deal of the year on priceline!

UPDATED! Received this e mail minutes ago. Wondering if everyone else received this letter.

Hopefully I will not be on the blacklist on PL in the future.

This note is regarding your Name Your Own Price reservation for the La

Quinta Resort & Club in Palm Springs, California.

When you use priceline.com to make a Name Your Own Price hotel offer,

we search a private database of inventories and prices provided by our

partner hotels to try to match your offer. In the case of your La Quinta

Palm Springs reservation, the hotel mistakenly loaded an incorrect rate

into that private database - one so low that the hotel asked us to

cancel some great Name Your Own Price deals our customers got at this hotel

and allow you to rebook your reservations at a higher discounted rate.

All of us at priceline.com stand behind the Name Your Own Price service

and the value proposition for which it stands. So instead of cancelling

your reservation, we have agreed to pay the hotel the difference

between your offer price and the higher discounted rate that the hotel is

offering, so that you can enjoy your stay at the priceline.com price you

named.

We would like to personally thank you for using priceline.com and we

hope to serve you again in the future.

Sincerely,

Priceline Customer Service Team

Kudos to Priceline for stepping up to the plate on this one!! :)

I'm not sure they "stepped up to the plate" all the way. La Quinta is honoring only the first reservation made and cancelling all others. I had 4 reservations of which one was an add-a-night. I now have only 1 night at the La Quinta as the rest are cancelled. La Quinta (Hilton) is claiming an error and refusing to honor this, Priceline is stuck in the middle according to a service rep there.

Interesting ... I called into Priceline and after entering my request # ... it bypassed all the normal prompts and the phone was answered almost right away by a customer care rep. After getting nowhere, I was transfered to a supervisor (Tony) who said that there are 1000's of reservations they will have to deal with .... the ones that are being cancelled will be all gone by Monday ***print out your winning bids*** I already could not locate one under the "my trips" section. He said to use "check on my requests" to pull up my missing win.

... he said to contact management on Monday directly though the link under investor relations and we'd here back within 48 hours.

In my case, they have cancelled my reservation and kept my friend's ... both were under the same email/account.

I am pasting below part of the emails I received where La Quinta will reimburse for changed flights, car rental due to the cancelled room ...

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the event your cancelled or rebooked reservations result in cancellation/change fees for airline tickets, rental car reservations or other expenditures you made between the date you made your priceline offer and the date of this letter, LaQuinta will reimburse those fees, as long as the dates of your purchased travel reservations correspond directly to the dates of your original hotel stay and you can provide documentation of such purchases.

I just got off the phone with Leigh (1st layer), was sent to Megan (2nd layer...and taking this personally...rude!) I was told that it is in the terms and conditions yet she could not tell me where it is that Priceline can cancel their contract. I suggested to her that she should find it, cut it out and place it in front of her associates, because it would save alot of time. She kept referring it too me as 22 pages and she doesn't have time. Do you Theruare or anyone else here know of it?

I finally got an address from her for the VP of customer service. Even though I am not breaking the contract, I need to write to her to get the part of the contract that makes it just between me and myself and that Priceline can wiggle out. I suggest everyone do the same.

Do we have anyone talking class action yet???

NO!!! (and please don't suggest it)

I'm not a lawyer, but to have a legitimate suit you need to have damages. Since priceline and/or the hotel have agreed to cover any costs associated with your reservation being cancelled, you have no damages.

That's not stepping up to the plate. Priceline needs to force La Quinta to honor all reservations. How could you ever trust Priceline again if they didn't. They would just claim error in the future and cancel your reservation. This is a breach of contract. File a compliant with the California Attorney General's Office and with the Better Business Bureau. If we allow them to get away with this, it opens the door to future abuse. Consumers need to be protected.

Call the hotel and express your disatisfaction and hit the reply button on their email. You should not take this lying down. They have breach your contractual rights and you should not stand for it. I'm am filing a compliant with the Attorney Generals Office and with the Better Business Bureau. I made reservations on behalf of family and friends and I have them filing complaints too!

Oh, i didn't get that from your previous post... seemed to me they were sort of saying "The hotel messed up, but we're honoring your reservation". I didn't see anything about them cancelling any reservation.
That's not stepping up to the plate.

As you can see i was under the assumption that they were honoring all reservations when i previously wrote that.

Upon learning that they are honoring the first reservation made by each user but cancelling subsequent reservations, I agree with rc408 that they aren't "stepping up to the plate all the way"... but i will also point out that they are doing much more than most other companies do in similar situations.

I have merged this thread with an existing one in order to keep all posts on this subject in one thread and avoid duplicate postings.

There may have been some naive people who had hit this deal and believe that that is what it was - a great deal. But the majority of us, here and on FT, did not accidentally hit this deal. We learned about it on these sites, where the possibility that this was an error was largely discussed, including the chance of the whole thing being voided. We made an informed decision to go for it because there would be no downside if cancelled, while the upside would be a tremendous indulgence if honored.

It is very unfortunate that Priceline/La Quinta took almost four weeks to contact us, since they surely realized right away that something had gone very wrong. So they're jerks. There, we said it. Now let's move on. Someone goofed badly. The potential damage to them is substantial. It behooves us to accept their apology and let go. If you or I ever made such a terrible mistake, we really would like to be excused, wouldn't we? And although Priceline will not let us get out of reservations where we book something we didn't intend, I'm sure that if you accidentally bid $1000 instead of $100, they will work with you. At the very least their guarantee will refund you the difference between published rate and your excessive bid.

I have no problem with Priceline cancelling two of my bookings. I've already promised my first reservation to a couple of friends so I'll keep it, but if it were not for that - I'd allow PL to cancel that reservation as well so that they would not incur any loss at all. It would be the right thing to do.

It would be nice of PL in this circumstance if they allowed us more options, to show some good faith. For example, I think it would be perfectly reasonable for them to offer to change the reservations (with no increase in price) to another area hotel where $25 is not too outragous, like the Hilton Garden Inn, Holiday Inn Express, Courtyard, etc.

As for contacting the AG or BBB, I don't think they'll do anything about it. Contacting the media will just give PL publicity. The public will take note of the one-time error reported, yawn, and go on to check out PL's website where the've just heard that people are getting awesome hotel rates.

Finally, this was a big mistake that had to be corrected. I don't believe that PL will allow abuse in the form of hotels arbitrarily voiding reservations just because they miscalculated their inventory levels and want their rooms back to resell higher.

I would think that this info would have to be on Pricelines web site for you to read before you bid. I can't see how they could pull this out of the air now when it was not available at the time the bid was placed.

Both the hotel and priceline have insurance for things like this and its time for them to step up to the plate and do the right thing. Theres no chance Priceline would let any of you of of this contract if you had paid too much or bid in the wrong zone. How many times have we seen people on this board try to get things fixed after bidding the wrong zone or dates and PL told them your SOL!

Everyone needs to force the issue on this one and if need be take it to the courts. I don't think the court will have much sympathy for PL on this one.

I would also start making copys of all those bookings before PL trys to delete them.

I respectfully disagree with allowing Priceline to void the contract. There whole business is predicated on buyer beware and tough luck if you don't get what you want. The fact that the board reported a possible mistake is irrelevent to the topic. I honestly feel that our own character is being tested and hats off to those willing to give back their rooms, but I too had called many others and planned this awesome, extended family retreat. I don't see giving me my money back as a viable option that really makes me feel "whole." I paid my credit card bill of over $600 for this bid already. I am a teacher at the end of summer vacation. We ALL use Priceline for the deals. Are you saying that we should abolish this website because we discuss great deals and give out information to attain these bargains?

I have people that have now scheduled vacation time. I told people that I could treat them to an fantastic resort for their holiday gift. How do you remedy that? At what point do businesses check their character? I don't see too many people complaining when the businesses put in those "hidden" fees. Funny thing is I almost didn't go for this deal because of the $20 resort fee. Are you going to tell me that this resort can charge half price for their resort room and call that a deal? $225 per night? Is it really a deal if they only make a 15% profit instead of 65%? What kind of integrity does an industry possess when the same exact room can cost $99 vs. $499 for different times of the year? At the very least, the very, very least, they should offer these rooms for the lowest rate during any part of the year. And yes, that includes the summer $89 specials they run.

Sorry, I think pressure needs to be applied. Shame on Hilton. But the real shame is upon Priceline because they refuse to play by the same rules as the other side...their customers.

I responded to the email I received with a "sorry, I do not accept that" and here is the exchange thus far.

I am sure I didn't make myself clear. I have already gone that route. Customer service wasn't even made aware of the situation. When I received a manager it was to read me the original email sent to me. Personally, I don't think I should be spending all of this time dealing with a problem that Priceline created. The time I will spend will be writing the appropriate people in Connecticut, along with the BBB and the USA Today. I would rather not be rash and will wait to see if my credit card will be credited to see if Priceline actually carries out the threat of cancellation. At this moment, the resort and Priceline still have my reservation. I am still hopeful that will remain as I have NEVER under any circumstances heard of Priceline attempting to break their agreement with their customers.

At the very least, I would expect a letter to my home address from Priceline's legal counsel with the reasoning and legal speak behind breaching our agreement. Until I see that letter, I will assume that everything will be honored.

Thank you for responding,

Eric

I also just recieved the following e-letter from PL honoring my reservations (3 rooms, 2 nights, a savings of over $2,600 over the hotel website):
