Priceline Hotel: Chicago Oct 6

Welcome to BetterBidding!

The Chicago Marathon is taking place on 10/6 which is an event that often takes up a lot of hotel rooms and increases hotel rates.

Is this a discretionary trip that you will cancel if you can't get a hotel for a low price or do you already have plans in the area and need a room regardless?

What is your maximum/expected budget for this nite?

Please remember to return to BetterBidding and use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPSandHOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases.

If you have to be downtown or right near it, the cheapest option I'm seeing on PRICELINE EXPRESS  (please confirm the correct date of travel is showing on the detail page after clicking the link below) is:

4* McCormick Place - South Loop - Soldier Field (<<<---CLICK HERE to go direct to the listing) for $257
Fitness Center
Business Center
No Smoking Rooms/Facilities
Free Internet
Indoor or Outdoor Pool
>>>Best guess would be the Hyatt McCormick. Not walkable to downtown, but reasonably quick cab ride to the Loop.

On HOTWIRE I'm seeing:

4* HOTWIRE Magnificent Mile - Water Tower for $295.00
Free Internet
Pet Friendly
Boutique
Smoke Free
Fitness
Restaurant
Business
Hi-Speed Internet
Golf
Blind Accessible
Deaf Accessible
Travel Accessible
Room Accessible
Wheelchair Accessible
Bathroom Accessible
Handicapped Parking
Roll-in Shower
==>  Best guess would be the Ambassador.

If you're driving and don't mind taking a train trip downtown:

On PRICELINE EXPRESS (please confirm the correct date of travel is showing on the detail page after clicking the links below.)

3* Deerfield Area (<<<---CLICK HERE to go direct to the listing) for $49
Free Parking
Fitness Center
Business Center
Restaurant
No Smoking Rooms/Facilities
Free Internet
Indoor or Outdoor Pool
>>>Best guess would be the Courtyard Marriott Deerfield

3.5* Deerfield Area (<<<---CLICK HERE to go direct to the listing) for $77
Free Parking
Fitness Center
Business Center
Restaurant
No Smoking Rooms/Facilities
Free Internet
Indoor or Outdoor Pool
>>>Best guess would be the Hyatt Deerfield

If staying in Deerfield, there is the Metra train downtown (about 45 minutes each way and doesn't run as often on Saturday, but the Metra trains are very nice and there is a weekend pass.) Deerfield would really be more if you're driving in (it's not really walkable), but it's very nice and options certainly would be cheaper.

If you are flying in and want to stay by the airport, let us know which and we would be happy to offer suggestions. I'm also happy to answer any city questions.

Let us know what you decide or if we can be of any further assistance.

Thanks for the recommendations. I realized the marathon was Sunday and that was the reason prices were so high.  We already have a place for Friday (Swissôtel) and it was only 170$.  I am hoping the longer I wait something more affordable in the area might pop up.

For the future when traveling on high-demand dates such as these i would suggest:
1) booking something early that is fully refundable up until a few days before your arrival which would protect you from rates only moving higher from that point onward.  You can use our RefundableRates.com to compare rates on a refundable basis.

2) use our other site RateDrop to monitor rates from PRICELINE and HOTWIRE so that if a good deal or something within your budget becomes available you will be notified about it right away (as good deals during very busy times can disappear very quickly)

If this was a purchase thru PRICELINE or HOTWIRE can you please post this win to the board as a NEW TOPIC so that others can be aware of, and benefit from this win, when searching the topic titles on the board and in the Priceline and Hotwire Calendar of Wins.

I see one on Priceline for 185$. It says it’s a 3 Star in McCormick place. Might that be the Hyatt?

Not likely since as per above the Hyatt Regency Mccormick Place is 4 star rated by PRICELINE (unless it's a different Hyatt you're referring to).  If you'd like us to have a look at this PRICELINE EXPRESS property please include the full details (including all the amenities that are shown at BiddingHelper.com) and we will have a look.

Unfortunately, the Hyatt McCormick listing that I was seeing this morning appears to be gone/out of inventory.

I'm seeing on PRICELINE EXPRESS (please confirm the correct date of travel is showing on the detail page after clicking the links below.)

4.5* Downtown Chicago - Millennium Park (<<<---CLICK HERE to go direct to the listing) for $290
Pets Allowed
Fitness Center
Business Center
Restaurant
No Smoking Rooms/Facilities
Free Internet
Indoor or Outdoor Pool

>>>Best guess would be the Radisson Blu, which is basically around the corner from the Swiss.

What would be your desired max budget for the night? This is a busy period and only a few days away - there is the possibility that rates might come down a bit, but there's a definite risk that they don't or that options may change.

Was your Swissotel purchase thru PRICELINE or HOTWIRE or did you book that thru a 'traditional' booking channel?

Will be playing the waiting game a bit.

Our sister site RateDrop will monitor prices (HOTWIRE, PRICELINE EXPRESS, and regular 'retail' rates) for you so that if prices do drop you will be made aware of it.  Set the alert threshold to whatever amount you're willing to pay, or keep them at current rates if you just want to know about any decrease in price, and you will receive an email if the rate drops to the amount you designated.

I'm seeing this evening:

On HOTWIRE:

4* HOTWIRE McCormick Place - South Loop for $158.00
Free Internet
Indoor Pool
Smoke Free
Fitness
Pool
Restaurant
Business
Laundry
Hi-Speed Internet
Golf
Wheelchair Accessible
==>  Hyatt McCormick, although keep in mind that this is is not right downtown and is going to require a cab ride there/back. There's also not really anything right around the hotel (this is really primarily for those going to McCormick next door for a convention.)

Also seeing:

4.5* HOTWIRE River North for $262.00
Pet Friendly
Smoke Free
Fitness
Restaurant
Business
Hi-Speed Internet
Golf
Spa
==>  A guess would be Westin River North - certainly more expensive, but a far more central location in the city.
