Priceline Hotel: 4* Rome, Area 6 (Piazza Navona - Pantheon)

Please help with when to start bidding for the best deals?  And what hotels to expect to win at around what cost?  I’ve never booked through Priceline for another country before, wondering how the star rating compares to Canada/US?  Should I lower my * rating?

 

Also, any tips on which hotel to book as a back up with full cancellation privileges?

Update: I just booked my backup hotel - Di Rienzo Pantheon Palace for $200 CAD per night. Only 3* rating, but looks lovely and is in area 6.

Generally speaking hotel star ratings in Europe are more generous than their North American counterparts (this applies to all booking channels... not just PRICELINE / HOTWIRE) so a 3* in Europe is more likely a 2*-2.5* in the US.  As well, rooms and beds are usually smaller vs. the US.

 

If you were really looking for a US 3 star and you would like to seek a new back-up reservation (or just to see if there is anything better than your current back-up) we also run the site RefundableRates.com which was designed with this specific purpose in mind... being able to compare hotels on a refundable basis (as it's often hard to to at most sites since they typically list the lowest price which is often non-refundable)

 

Is Piazza Navona - Pantheon the only zone you're interested in... Trevi Fountain - Spanish Steps is another popular and frequently used area.
