I am looking to book for 2 rooms from 19 May to 21 May for 4 adults and 2 children (age 3 and 5). Seem that the dates fall into the AUA Conference at Moscone Centre and the hotel price has become very expensive.

I am looking for 4* to 5* in Union Square East or Financial District - Embarcadero. Can you please help with the strategy for bidding on Priceline? Willing to go up to  300USD/night.

Currently, I saw this on Priceline Express (which I can have the bed choice option) but could not ID the hotel

Welcome to Betterbidding.

I'm seeing on PRICELINE EXPRESS (please confirm the correct dates of travel and # of rooms after clicking the links below.)

5* Union Square East - Nob Hill for $308
Pets Allowed
Business Center
Restaurant
No Smoking Rooms/Facilities
>>>A guess would be the Taj Campton

4.5* Financial District - Embarcadero for $335
Pets Allowed
Business Center
Restaurant
Free Internet
Fitness Center
>>>Best guess would be the Le Meridien

4* Financial District - Embarcadero for $294
Business Center
Restaurant
Free Internet
Fitness Center
No Smoking Rooms/Facilities
>>>Best guess would be the Club Quarters

You can also use the promotional code in my signature for 5% off. Are any of the above options of interest or do you want to bid? If you do bid there is a definite chance you can wind up with 1 bed.

Let us know what you decide or if we can be of any further assistance.

Thanks a lot for your help. If I would like to try bidding on priceline, what shall i put as starting bid price?

Do I have a choice to accept or not accept the hotel offer, if my bid was accepted by the hotel? Undecided between trying the priceline express and bidding. I hope to stay somewhere around Union Square East (Taj Campton is one of my top choice too) or at Omni Hotel at Financial District.

Need to backtrack a bit...

All PRICELINE reservations are for double occupancy.  You can sometimes use PRICELINE EXPRESS for triple/quad occupancy when a 'bed choice' option is presented and when one of those options is for a room that can accommodate the number of guests you need (technically your reservation is still only for double occupancy but i have not yet known of anyone who had an issue when booking a specific room type and showing up with 3or4 guests when the room type chosen is designed to accommodate that number of guests)

For the PRICELINE EXPRESS hotels above i don't see the first one offer a Bed Choice at all (even though PRICELINE indicates that there is a bed choice available, there is none shown on the next page), the second property does offer a room with 2 double beds for only $8 more per nite, and the third hotel does offer a room type that can accommodate 2adults/1child (per each room) but that room is $374/nite (not the $294/nite that is available for a 1Queen bed room)

I would not recommend bidding on PRICELINE for this trip since it only guarantees double occupancy, and you'll need triple occupancy in each room (or double occupancy in one room and quad occupancy in the other... i'm not sure if each family traveling has one child OR if both children belong to one couple).  If you were wiling to accept some risk this might be a viable option in a location such as Orlando where hotels are built with a high percentage of rooms that can accommodate families and have more than one bed in the room, but in a city such as San Francisco (as well as New York and Chicago) most hotel rooms have a high percentage of rooms with only one bed so the risk would be substantially higher.

Another option would be HOTWIRE which allows you to search for up to quad occupancy per room and guarantees sleeping accommodations for everyone you include in your search, but you may find pricing higher when searching for triple/quad occupancy vs. the double occupancy that PRICELINE EXPRESS is searching for.

What is your maximum budget for this trip (per nite per room before taxes/fees)?

Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed (or how it goes if you take one of the PRICELINE EXPRESS options above) and we'll take it from there.

I am also looking at HOTWIRE and found this:

5-star Hotel in Financial District - Embarcadero area $344/night (Bed choice: King or Queen bed)

Complimentary

Free Internet

Amenities

Business centerFitness centerNear beachPet friendlyRestaurant(s)Smoke-free rooms

Can you please help to ID this? And of course, compare to the Priceline express, this does not guarantee 2 double beds.

And strangely, even if I lower the star class to 4*, the price is interestingly more expensive than the 5* of the same area.

If you change your search parameters (ie- not include 2 children in your search) please let us know as it saves us time when trying to replicate your search.  I'm not seeing the property above when searching for your original 2rooms/4adults/2children search, but i do see it i drop the children from the search.

I believe there are more amenities then what you have posted above as HOTWIRE has a new interface that does not show the complete set of amenities unless you search using the EASY VIEW TAB of our BiddingHelper.com tool. (always use this method for your searches/purchases to ensure you're seeing the complete amenity set and for an easy comparison of PRICELINE vs. HOTWIRE, as well as to use our new IS THIS A GOOD PRICE feature).

If you repeat your search using our BiddingHelper.com tool... use the HOTWIRE EASY VIEW tab and then click the GREEN BUTTON next to this listing, do you see more amenities (including any accessible amenities) then what you have listed above? Using this method, below is the full list of amenities i'm seeing for the 5 star hotel in this zone when searching for your dates:

5* HOTWIRE Financial District - Embarcadero for $344.00
Free Internet
Pet Friendly
Near Beach
Smoke Free
Fitness
Restaurant
Business
Hi-Speed Internet
==> best guess here would be the Loews Regency San Francisco
