It is for my birthday so I'm hoping not to spend more than $320 for the entire weekend.

I've tried bidding but we decided last minute to go away and prices are so high (for a college kid like me anyway). Any help would be appreciated!

My guess is that at current prices you're likely looking at about $145-$165 per nite before fees/taxes... or about $165-$185 for a nice 4 star property.

I’ve bid up to $120/night (which with taxes puts me at the threshold for spending), in the zones I’ve mentioned above, at 3*+.

 

is it worth waiting to hope the prices drop or is that not a thing?

Nobody can say if rates will drop, or move even higher, between now and your trip (it's all based upon supply/demand... how actual reservations/cancellations come in relative to expected new reservations/cancellations)

 

If you're unable to find something in your current $120/nite target budget, will you raise your budget, lower your minimum star rating, look at an alternate destination, or cancel your plans to travel entirely?

Budget could only be raised slightly - I've seen deals elsewhere that hover around $320 for the two nights in the Rittenhouse Square area so that's always an option. But I don't think I'd lower my star request.

Unfortunately, I'm not seeing anything really under $170 in the core areas of Philadelphia on these dates on HOTWIRE. Would this possibility be of any interest?

Do you still see it at that price as i'm currently seeing that property at $338/nite (after taxes/fees... so $776 total for the two nites) for your dates... if you can get it for $160, and you're willing to stay there for that price, you may want to take it as that would be a good deal for that property, imo. (but if $776 is the price you're seeing now then there are cheaper PRICELINE / HOTWIRE options)
