Hello,

New to Priceline and the NYOP tool and just looking for general advice/strategy for the following:

Las Vegas

4.5 Star + (with casino)

The Strip - Central East or The Strip - Central West (some flexibility here - want on the strip but must be between MGM and Treasure Island)

Nov. 20 - Nov. 28th, 2017

Maximum bid $65

We've got a backup reservation that can be cancelled for New York, New York (at approx. $65/night) and curious to see if we can do better.

Thanks in advance!

Welcome to BetterBidding!

Just to clarify that New York New York is 4* rated by PRICELINE, so you're actually trying to gain an extra half star for the same price... this may be possible between some star ratings (such as 2.5* --> 3*) but not very likely from 4* to 4.5* given that there are not that many hotels that are rated 4.5 star.

I do see this offer (confirm  your dates on the landing page of the provided link):

4.5* The Strip - Northwest for $79 $75/nite when using the promotion link in my signature
Pets Allowed
Business Center
Restaurant
Free Internet
Indoor or Outdoor Pool
Casino
Fitness Center
No Smoking Rooms/Facilities
==> best guess for this one would be The Mirage, which would be a step up from NYNY, but you would need to decide if worth the extra $10/nite expense or not

I think thereuare didn't offer a NYOP strategy because Las Vegas Strip Hotels have really tightened up to the Express Deal prices. Over the past few years its been rare for me to get much more than the 5% off link mentioned using NYOP. Also bidding, you can end up with a non casino hotel if that matters

In other cities, I have shaved off 20% off the Express Deal price, but not Strip hotels in Vegas

But if you want a strategy, at this time looking to get a 4.5 star for $65 or less you really don't need a bunch of rebid zones

$63 4.5 Northwest

$64 adding Central East

$65 adding Central West

Otherwise check back early November, the 4.5 star hotels might lower prices if they have lots of unsold rooms. In the meantime, register for Priceline emails, every once in a while they send me a $20 coupon

To confirm Roadguy's suspicion and to further clarify my thoughts on the above, i didn't suggest a bidding strategy as i didn't think it would be successful in the zones that could be bid... and lots of caveats as to zones that can't be bid given the parameters laid out by the OP and would have wanted to clarify first if the PRICELINE EXPRESS offer suggest was not acceptable...

Central East could be bid but if successful likely land The Cromwell which would want to see if this was an acceptable property

Central West hotels are much higher priced than bidding limit above

Strip Northeast, Strip Northwest, Strip Southeast, Strip Southwest all have hotels that could be won that would put the OP outside of the required 'between MGM and Treasure Island'

For $75/nite i thought the likely landing of the Mirage was a very good deal, worth the $10 more than NYNY, and ensured getting something within the designated parameters... for the sake of time i was suggesting this first before listing all the issues when bidding the other zones (but you raised the point, and i had a little more time today than when i gave my previous reply, so i figured i'd address it now)
