Hotwire Hotel: California road trip

Hi,

Me and my wife are planning a small road trip across California (SF-> LA) that will span about 10 days, from 30/7 to 8/8.

How are these dates for a chance to get some nice deals in good hotels around the area? (Santa Barbara/Monterey/Carmel etc)

I never used hotwire/priceline service before, but I think this kind of trip maybe suitable for spontaneous hotel bookings
