Hotwire Hotel: Question about Hotwire fees

I was looking for a hotel in an area that we go to every year the same weekend. Sorry, don't want to reveal exactly what it is right now (but will post if we book the hotel). I found what I am positive is the same hotel, at the same price as last year. The price was $94/night. In 2016 the taxes/fees were $117. This year, the same taxes/fees are up to $150. $150 is almost 50% of the room. I find that outrageous. Is this common? Normal?

Editing to say, since I know the identity of the hotel, I checked the prices on the hotel's own website. The nightly rate is about $10 higher, but their taxes and fees are only about $103, bringing the total to less than on Hotwire. And, it's cancellable until the day before arrival!!!

Impossible to say without knowing more details of the hotel, dates, room rate, etc.

It's possible that the fees have increased, but also just as likely that something else is at work... hotel has a new fee that HOTWIRE is including in the room rate rate, tax rate for the area has increased, HOTWIRE has the tax rate wrong for the area (i've seen this a few times where the taxes/fees are extraordinarily high), etc.
