the Wyndham name and the franchising business was recently bought by the Blackstone Group. Blackstone kept the "nicer" locations for their real estate value and then sold the Wyndham franchising rights to Cendant. Some of the nicer locations kept were in Key West (Casa Marina, Reach Resort), Orlando (Palace), Puerto Rico and others. They no longer have Wyndham in the name but are still sold by Wyndham.com as part of the deal.

Blackstone has bought Amerisuites, Wyndham, Wellesley Inns, La Quinta, Baymont, Summerfield Suites, Homestead Studio Suites, Crossland Suites in recent years. They then resold Amerisuites to Hyatt and Wyndham to Cendant (Ramada, Days, Wingate, Super 8, Hojo, Travelodge, etc.). Rumor is they will be "dumping" Baymont Inn soon. When they bought La Quinta, Baymont came with the purchase but since Blackstone wants to own and not franchise hotels Baymont will be sold (Cendant or Carlson are likely).
