Hi - We're looking for a 1 night hotel in NYC for our family 2 adults + 2 kids). We're dropping our son off at college on the Upper West side, so somewhere convenient to that would be useful. Otherwise, we're not picky about location (as long as its safe).

3* or 4*

NYC (zone not important, but in Manhattan)

8/27-28

Below $150

Need 2 beds -- preferably 2 queens

Thanks!

Welcome to Betterbidding.

The issue with NYC is that many rooms are small (or very small in some cases, even at the 3.5/4* level) and when two beds is available, those rooms are often at a higher cost (while in comparison in a more family friendly city like Orlando, there's no problem with getting two beds.) Quad occupancy in NYC is often more expensive and this can be seen on HOTWIRE when searching for 2 vs 4 in NYC.

When searching for 4 on HOTWIRE, that should result in some sort of bedding (2 beds, 1 + rollaway or 1 + sofa) for the whole party.

I'm seeing a 3* for $160 in the Midtown West-Theater District area w/Complimentary Breakfast, Smoke Free, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Business on HOTWIRE.

>>> This is likely the Holiday Inn Express West Side. While a bit over your desired budget (there really isn't much under $150 when searching for 4), this does at least offer breakfast for everyone.

There are also a number of PRICELINE EXPRESS options within your desired budget (including a 4.5* in Midtown East for $144, please make sure the correct date is showing on the landing page when you click the link)  but they do not list bed choice (or if there is a bed choice, 2 beds is not one of the options) so there is risk in terms of bedding.

Would any of these options be of interest? Let us know your thoughts and we can then offer further suggestions.

Looking for

3* and up

NYC (midtown or upper west side)

8/27-8/28/2016

Rate: up to $150

Need 2 beds (2 adults and 2 children); Parking at hotel or nearby

Where do you suggest I bid -- what zones and how much?  The location is not super important. We're dropping our son off at college on the upper west side on Sunday, and want to enjoy the city the day before.

Suggestions please?

Please keep all posts for the same stay in the same thread. Once you win a hotel, use the 'ADD REPLY and REPORT WIN' button on the upper right corner of the page to edit the topic title to reflect your win and to provide the details of your purchase. This helps keep the board better organized by reducing the number of unresolved threads that don't have any follow-up or conclusion.

Did you see the reply to your original thread before posting?

If you are looking to bid on PRICELINE, are you OK with the possibility that you win a room with only one bed (and potentially no room for a rollaway)?

Hi - Thanks for the advice! The " 3* for $160 in the Midtown West-Theater District area w/Complimentary Breakfast, Smoke Free, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Business on HOTWIRE." looks good, but it doesn't have an option to indicate 2 beds. Does Hotwire automatically guarantee 2 beds if you indicate 4 people?

As noted, when searching for 4 on HOTWIRE, that should result in some sort of bedding (2 beds, 1 + rollaway or 1 + sofa) for the whole party. If does not guarantee two 2 beds. Additionally, 2 queens is going to be difficult in NYC, given the small (or tiny) size of many rooms in NYC. Once you make the reservation, you can call to make a request. While hopefully you will be able to get 2 beds, if you were to get some kind of variation (1 + rollaway or 1 + sofabed, etc) would that be acceptable for one night if it's a good deal?If you go through PRICELINE EXPRESS (and don't see a bed choice option in the listing that specifies two beds) or PRICELINE bidding, then there is a definite risk in NYC that you will wind up with one bed.
