Headed to san Francisco July 4-6. I know this is a holiday weekend so rates may be high. Trying to decide if I should just book direct through priceline or bid. Looking for a 4 star in union square area. I don't know what the difference between east and west really is. We are in our late 30ies and plan to walk and use public transportation. Trying not to pay more than $200 a night but is that unrealistic? We don't have any specific amenity needs. Any advise us greatly appreciated. And if you think I should bid can you give me some bidding help?

Rates are not that high for these dates.

While most people think that holidays necessarily spike hotel rates, depending on the area, it can have the opposite effect since there is little/no business travel.

For your trip above i'm seeing this 4* Union Square East hotel for $119/ntie with:

Pets Allowed

Business Center

Restaurant

No Smoking Rooms/Facilities

... best guess for this one would be the Sir Francis Drake, A Kimpton Hotel.

Does this work for your needs?
