AaronJB
Welcome to Betterbidding. I think there may be more amenities than you have included above. If you repeat your search using our BiddingHelper tool and look in the EASY VIEW TAB, do you see additional amenities beyond those listed above? If so, please confirm the full amenity set and we would be happy to take a look. I'll also note, do you need to be in the Loop? Parts of the Loop, such as the West part of the zone, can be quiet on nights/weekends. Please remember to return to BetterBidding and use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPSandHOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. Megzy16
Hi Aaron, thanks so much for the EASY VIEW TAB suggestion. I didn't understand it before reading other posts, but now i do :) I can't find anything more for the 2 hotels above. But overtime i go in and look the 3.5 star hotel changes it name (eg. Welcoming 3.5 star, Choice 3.5 star, Quality 3.5) I only chose the Loop area for us as we are catching the train to head to Milwaukee early one morning. I guess a Taxi could get me there just as fast? What is your suggestion for most central part to stay in Chicago? I also love Wyndham Grand Riverfront rooms :) Thank you for replying Link to comment
AaronJB
The area along the river as well as the area to the North of the river generally has more activity at night. Additionally, if you are taking an Amtrak out of Union to Milwaukee, it's a very reasonable cab ride from Michigan Ave to Union. Please also provide the date/s of travel and I would be happy to take a look and discuss options available. While you're taking the train to Milwaukee, I'll also suggest the resort town of Lake Geneva in Wisconsin (http://www.visitlakegeneva.com/) just a bit of a ways over the border as a cute day trip from Chicago if you do drive next time you stay in the city. Please remember to return to BetterBidding and use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPSandHOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. Megzy16
Thanks Aaron :) We will look to stay somewhere near Union station then if you think cab fare will be quite high. Chicago Riverwalk area is nice. We are only in Chicago for a quick visit (2 nights) Arrive 29/8 at 5am on the red eye flights then leaving 8am on train 31/8 Any help or feedback would be great. We plan to do dinner out both nights and one day on the hop on hop off bus to all the sites :) Lake Geneva looks gorgeous. We planned to get train from Chicago to Milwaukee then hire a car from there - 3 days we have. Headed to Green Bay - my man is a big NFL Packers fan (we are from Aus) Other option is we catch a train/bus back to O'hare Airport and hire a car from there to drive to Milwaukee/Green Bay. We fly out of Milwaukee 2nd Sept. Link to comment
AaronJB
Let me take a look at what is available in the city during these dates, but I'll also offer some notes about Wisconsin, as well. AaronJB
1st, Chicago; When searching for 8/29-31, I'm seeing (you may see a slightly different price): 1. 4* Navy Pier-Millennium Park, $111 Boutique, Restaurant, Fitness, Smoke Free, Business, Spa, Blind Accessible, Deaf Accessible, Travel Accessible, Room Accessible, Bathroom Accessible, Wheelchair Accessible, Roll-in Shower, Pet Friendly -- Likely Hard Rock. If Hard Rock, central location a couple of blocks South of the River. A few blocks to the North over the river you're in the Michigan Ave area. A couple of blocks to the South, you're at Millennium Park and the Art Institute. This would be a definite pick from the standpoint of central location in the city as a whole and reasonable price as rates go for these dates. 2. 4* Mag Mile-Water Tower $96 Boutique, Restaurant, Fitness, Smoke Free, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Blind Accessible, Deaf Accessible, Travel Accessible, Room Accessible, Bathroom Accessible, Handicapped Parking, Roll-in Shower -- Likely Warwick Allerton. Small rooms and an older property, but location is great - this is right in the center of the Michigan Ave area. 3. 4* Downtown-River North $149 Fitness, Complimentary Breakfast, Free Internet, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Spa, Travel Accessible, Room Accessible, Bathroom Accessible, Roll-in Shower, Pet Friendly -- This would likely be the Kinzie Hotel, which would be a great location in River North (tons of restaurants and nightlife nearby) and offer the benefit of free breakfast on each floor. However, unfortunately more expensive. Still, you mention a 4* in the Loop in your first post (Boutique, Restaurant, Fitness, Hi-Speed Internet, Business, Spa, Bathroom Accessible, Roll-in Shower, Pet Friendly, which I think would be the Allegro.) I'm seeing the Loop listing for $153. I'd MUCH rather this, the potential Kinzie for a few dollars less. 4. 4.5* Downtown-River North $156 Free Internet, Pet friendly, Boutique hotel, Fitness center, Restaurant(s), Business center, Internet access, Spa services, Accessible for visually impaired, Accessible for hearing impaired, Accessible path of travel, In-room accessibility, Accessible bathroom, Accessible parking, Roll-in shower -- Likely the James, but I'd rather the Kinzie for a few bucks less w/free breakfast. Any of these would be a quick cab ride to Union. Are you looking for something particular in terms of hotel (style, etc?) Let me know if you have any questions before booking. Second, Wisconsin: 1. Cedarburg (http://www.cedarburg.org/) is a very cute, quaint historic town just to the North of Milwaukee if you are looking for a quick stop before heading North. Port Washington (http://www.visitportwashington.com/) is also a town worth a look if you want to stop along the lakefront. Further up, there's Manitowoc/Two Rivers, which make for a nice stopping point to take a break, as well. 2. When you are in Green Bay, you are right near a Peninsula called Door County.(http://www.doorcounty.com/). Door County is basically Maine in the Midwest. It is an absolutely gorgeous, marvelously quaint (there are no chain stores once you cross into the peninsula, no McDonalds, no nothing, everything is local.) Door County has an enormous amount of lovely restaurants/fine dining, as well as famed spots like Al Johnson's (http://www.aljohnsons.com/), where goats walk around on the roof. There's also various shops and stands, as well as a number of wineries/vineyards and orchards - Door County is famous for its cherries. Other sights include the Farm (http://www.thefarmindoorcounty.com/farm-fun/) and Peninsula State Park (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peninsula_State_Park#Points_of_interest). Door County could be a multi-day destination in itself, but just wanted to throw this out as something that is very close to Green Bay. Lake Geneva is very cute, but Door County is really one of the most beautiful areas that Wisconsin has to offer. Couple of additional Door County Restaurant highlights: Old Post Office Restaurant (https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g59868-d523383-Reviews-Old_Post_Office_Restaurant-Ephraim_Wisconsin.html#photos;geo=59868&detail=523383&ff=32367583&albumViewMode=hero&albumid=101&baseMediaId=32367583&thumbnailMinWidth=50&cnt=30&offset=-1&filter=7) The Old Post Office Restaurant has "fish boils", which are huge in Door County, http://www.oldpostoffice-doorcounty.com/fishboils.htm Wilson's (https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g59868-d547157-Reviews-Wilson_s_Restaurant-Ephraim_Wisconsin.html) Chop: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g60282-d2686291-Reviews-Chop-Sister_Bay_Wisconsin.html Please remember to return to BetterBidding and use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPSandHOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. We ended up booking the 1st one. 4* Navy Pier-Millenium Park hotel and you were correct it was Hard Rock Hotel ... YAY I'm happy with that as we were looking to book that hotel :) Thank u so much on the Wisconsin info too, so much to read and look at. So exciting. This info is great. U are more than helpful thanks again Link to comment
AaronJB
Congrats on your success. I think you made a great choice and very happy I could help. This was really the best option in terms of location and value. It's also within the Carbon/Carbide building, which is one of the city's more classic buildings (as well as a historic landmark, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carbide_%26_Carbon_Building) Lastly, a cab trip from this property to Union Station will be extremely quick. Please let me know if you have any city questions. I'd be happy to offer recommendations on restaurants/sights (let me know likes/dislikes.) Thank you for sharing your win and please use the site's PRICELINE or HOTWIRE links to start your purchases and searches. Enjoy your stay. Link to comment
