Where to stay in Los Angeles?

Looking to travel to Los Angeles with my wife in early May.

Neither of us have ever been before.

We want to see all the tourist spots and everything that LA has to provide.

What is the best area in LA to stay?

I just replied in those previous threads.

We are looking at dates 5/6 to 5/11.

Would like to keep the budget under $250/night.

I see a couple spots in downtown and Beverly Hills in that price range.

We've decided to put off going to Los Angeles till early August.

And we'll be taking our 6-year old son.

Any suggestions would still be appreciated.

Please post once your dates/plans are firm and we'll see what is offered within your budget.

I just returned from Los Angeles and i'd recommend renting a car, even though parking is expensive and traffic is bad, you will need it to get around if you want to cover a lot of different geographic areas. With your son in mind you'd likely want to at least start with West Hollywood (characters like spiderman, batman, etc. dressed up to take pictures with tourists in exchange for a tip), Hollywood Universal, Santa Monica pier, etc.
