NY NYC The Roger (Empire State Building)

Stayed at the Roger for 5 nights late January/early February 2013. Secured our room via this forum. The Empire State Building zone was always my first choice for a NYC Priceline bid, but not any more. If you win the Roger you WILL pay an additional $22 + tax PER NIGHT resort fee, despite that fact that you have already pre-paid you bid, these charges are additional. This fee is supposedly for Wifi and the gym – whether or not you want, or use, these amenities, you pay. The resort fee added up to more than what we bid per night for the hotel.

Our room, #1501 was the size of a typical NYC hotel room with a very small yet well designed bath. Both the room and the bath were spotless. Housekeeping in this hotel is outstanding. There were items around the room and in the bath that were for sale, kind of like a convenience store.

Each night when we returned to the hotel there was complimentary hot chocolate or hot cider in the lobby, and we were told in the summer they replace that with Prosecco. That was a very nice touch. The hotel needs to do the same in the morning with coffee. There are no coffee makers in the rooms, nor is there coffee in the lobby. Each morning of our stay I went 2 doors down to Keko Cafe or to Delectica to purchase coffee and bring it back to our room.

Elevators were fast, we never waited long. Walls are a bit thin, but fortunately we had neighbors who didn't think they were the only guests in the hotel. There was a dresser with 2 drawers (3rd drawer was a safe) and a spacious closet with plenty of hangers, a shelf, iron, ironing board, and luggage rack. King bed was amazingly comfortable with plenty of pillows, nice flat screen tv. Desk space was adequate. New decor is lovely. Not much of a view, I would ask for a room on a high floor overlooking the street, if one is available.

There are several reasonable priced restaurants nearby including The Crooked Knife (Madison & 30th), and chain restaurants including Chipolte, Cosi and le Pain Quotidien (33rd & Park). If you visit in the warmer months take a short walk down to the Shake Shack and have a burger in the park.
