ATL to SYD, priceline NYOP bidding question

My wife is flying to Australia for several weeks between late July and middle to late August. As an example of rate quotes, July 24-August 14 or 21 (middle of the week) is currently $1,637 including taxes and fees. Is there a legitimate chance of getting a price less than roughly $1,100? This is smack-dab in the middle of winter there, so it should be off-peak travel time.

Also, am I right in assuming that, since available flights out there are limited on a day-to-day basis, she would have a pretty good idea of what set of flights she might get before bidding?
