Would you have any suggestion for the most convenient town to stay in NJ en route from Ontario to NYC? It would be great if the town is quaint as we would be arriving around the evening and it would be nice to go to a cute little restaurant, but convenience is most important. Any advice you have would be much appreciated!!

Not sure how 'deep' into NJ you're willing to go but Morristown is about 40 minutes outside of NYC and is a nice little town, although the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE zones are somewhat large geographically so depending upon the hotel you receive you may still need to drive to a restaurant rather than be able to walk to one.

Hoboken is great and sits right on the other side of the Hudson River to Manhattan, but it may not be much cheaper then just heading all the way into the city and staying there.

Are you spending this nite in NJ in order to save lodging costs this nite vs. a room in Manhattan or in order to break up the driving?

What is your target budget and desired star rating for this nite?

What are your thoughts about the Morristown area?

If you can land the Hyatt you'll be within walking distance to many restaurants and (i believe) most hotels in the area offer free parking for hotel guests (whereas in Hoboken you'll have to pay more for parking). However, you might land something other than the Hyatt where you'll need to drive to the 'downtown' area of Morristown for dinner.. would this be acceptable?

I haven't checked rates for your dates yet, but on a weekend nite you can usually get a 4* hotel in this area for less than $75/nite, well under your budget and you'll be about a 40 minute ride to Manhattan the following morning.

Let us know your thoughts and we'll take it from there.

Yes, Morristown sounds fine in terms of distance to NYC and possibly free parking. Obviously it would be great to be within walking distance, but we can't be choosers when we're using PL and HW, right? Any additional advice you have would be most appreciated.

The Morristown Hyatt is only $79/nite for your date above... do you want to pay this 'retail' amount to ensure that you're within walking proximity of bars, restaurants, etc... or do you want to try bidding for a lower price, but a stronger likelihood/possibility that you'll need to drive to Morristown in order to 'go out'?

Let us know your thoughts and how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there.

Did you want to bid the 3.5* or 4* level (or some other star level?)

What would be your maximum bid? (as you get closer to $79 it may be worth paying a little more for the 'known' good location of the Hyatt... but how much more depends upon your own preferences and desires to be able to walk to local establishments)

Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board.

When bidding 4* in this region you have ONE re-bid zone. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.

Select 4* Morristown-Florham Park...

Bid $55, if rejected add re-bid zone...

Bid $60

If the above is rejected PRICELINE EXPRESS has a 4* hotel in this zone for $69 with Pool, Parking and Restaurant... use the link and code i my signature to bring the cost down to ~$66/nite. (alternately there is a 3.5* for $48 with Pool, Parking, Restaurant, Business, Fitness... which would be closer to $46/nite... you can decide if the half star bump in star rating is worth the extra $20 expense)

Congratulations on your success!

Glad to see you received a nice deal at this 4* rated rated property and are pleased with the results. While not in Morristown (it's a 10 minute drive away) there may be other restaurants closer to this property. You could put the hotel's address into our sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com ... inside the info bubble for this property you'll see a link to find nearby restaurants, coffees shops, bars, etc.

Thank you for sharing your win with the board.
