integlspwr
Preference 1:Las Vegas Strip Vicinity SouthPreference 2:Las Vegas Strip NorthBid up to $82 tonight & still no dice. Anyone know what percentage from Hotwire prices will get accepted as a Priceline Bid? Is it 20% or 10%, even less? Thanks again everyone betterbidding has not let me down!-integlspwr Link to comment
thereuare
There is not 'fixed' percent discount from HOTWIRE that it will take to win on PRICELINE, there are a lot of variables involved depending upon dates, city, time before stay, days of the week of stay, rate changes during the stay, etc, etc.My guess is that you're likely looking at about $95-$115 to be successful on PRICELINE for a 5* hotel for these dates... what is your maximum bid? Did you want to bid up to your limit for a Strip South zone first, then if rejected try for the Strip North zone... OR is your goal the least expensive 5* in either zone for this trip?Let us know the above and we'll advise accordingly. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. integlspwr
Did up to $95 for this 24HR Period and it did not get accepted. I will try again tomorrow. Maximum bid would be about $120 per night for a 5*. Goal is least expensive 5* in either zone for the dates listed. Thanks! Link to comment
mustard
I did the same two areas today for 3/20 - 3/24 at $125 and got rejected.... Link to comment
Romelle
I've only bid Las Vegas once, and that was years ago, but I learned an interesting lesson. I was gradually working my way up, and finally got a hit. THEN went to check how well I'd done, only to learn the hotel had a special on. I'd actually overpaid by a few dollars. So - my discount was a negative percent.Maybe by sharing this I can save you from similar frustration? There are lots of coupon deals floating around too. You can shake the coupons out with searches like "las vegas deals" or "las vegas promos" or similar, and can get some emails of deals by registering on the hotel web sites. You are of course bidding one week night, two weekend nights, and one week night. If you check HOTWIRE, first by all four nights at once, and then just 1/2/1 you can see the difference in prices. Sometimes PRICELINE doesn't average rates very well. And sometimes, when the rates are on the high side for weekends, there could not be any PRICELINE bidding availability for those dates. RomellePS - you don't mention using free rebids? If you use them, you can get many more bids in the same 24 hour session. Link to comment
thereuare
Did up to $95 for this 24HR Period and it did not get accepted. I will try again tomorrow. Maximum bid would be about $120 per night for a 5*. Goal is least expensive 5* in either zone for the dates listed. Are you familiar with and using your re-bid zones? If not, see Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding (highly recommended if you're new to the concept of re-bidding)I did the same two areas today for 3/20 - 3/24 at $125 and got rejected....If you'd like help with, or to report a win for, your own stay please start a NEW TOPIC. integlspwr
anyone know what 5* in the south vicinity would be accepted? I'm thinking vdara ? any other ideas what it might be ? Link to comment
thereuare
When bidding on PRICELINE there are no details given about the hotel before purchase and therefore there is no way to know which hotel you will receive... you can receive any hotel in the zone that you choose at the star rating (or higher, but not in this case) that you select. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Romelle
Check out the Hotel List at the very beginning of this Priceline -Nevada area. There are two other 5*s that members have reported receiving (both also very nice). And it is always possible to get some as-yet-not-reported hotel. Probably not in Las Vegas as there is some much reporting there, but I've a number of times gotten new (to betterbidding) hotels in other cities.Romelle Link to comment

Romelle
I should have said the opaque side of HOTWIRE - there were some 4*s there less than the $90 PRICELINE bid you mentioned a couple posts back. HOTWIRE can be a little more generous than PRICELINE with stars though. HW 4*s can sometimes be PL 3.5*s.Romelle Link to comment
integlspwr
ya the opaque side of HOTWIRE is pretty sketch in terms of how they rate their hotels. =\ Link to comment
