Priceline Hotel: 4 rooms for Las Vegas Strip 4/19-4/23

A group of 4 couples are going to Vegas for a Friday-Tuesday vacation on the Strip (north or south). We'd like 4* or 5*, with a budget of $100/room. A few questions:

1) Does booking so many rooms tend to help or hurt Priceline bids?

2) Since it's both weekend nights and weeknights, what should we expect in terms of pricing for the bidding?

And to verify, these are the potential rebid zones, correct?

Tonight I put in 2 bids (using the links above) at 5* for $70 & 75 (or 75 & 80, I can't remember), and then $40, 45, 50, 55, 60 for 4*. All were declined.

I checked your rebid zones. You are right on the 4*s, but missed one on the 5*s (there currently are 11, not 10). But do be sure to check them before each bidding session. Things change.

You are probably getting somewhat close on the 4* bidding, since Hotwire had a 4* South Strip for $79 for your four nights. If you get too close to this, you might consider Hotwire.

The weekend rates are higher than the weekday rates. Sometimes Priceline doesn't seem to average as easily as Hotwire does. If you are willing to chance a move, you could consider splitting your bid. Then trying the lower bids first for the week nights. Followed by the higher bidding for the weekend nights. Hotwire has the weekend South Strip 4* at $109 and the week night at $49.

You could even try to score a 5* for the week nights, and a 4* for the weekend nights.

Welcome to BetterBidding!

If the Trump is acceptable i think you can get that 5* property within your $100 budget, but note that this hotel is somewhat off-strip and doesn't have a casino. Assuming this is not acceptable, at current rates i think you're going to need to be in the $100-$125 range for a 5* hotel.

A 4* at this time is likely looking in the $80-$100 range (HOTWIRE has a 4* for $79 which i'm guessing is the Luxor, but this is currently 3.5* rated on PRICELINE)

How much more is a 5* worth to you vs. a 4*?

Multiple rooms doesn't help in any way.

While in a very tight situation it could hurt (there has to be 4 rooms available for your bid to be accepted), the hotels in Las Vegas are so large it most likely won't be a problem.

In terms of star rating, we'd love 5* but we're pretty firm on price. Perhaps waiting until after the new year would help?

You can certainly try, but sub-$100 for a 5* hotel which includes weekend nites is usually not available except at the slowest of times.

Well, I've started to pace out the bids every few days. I have a $50 in bonus cash that expires tomorrow night. It was supposed to be $10/night, but because we're doing 4 rooms, it's only $3.13/night. So

5* at *85.13 and $90.13 failed.

4* at $49.13, 54.13, 59.13, 64.13, and 69.13 all failed.

I'll try again tomorrow night before the bonus cash is gone.

How likely is it that if all my friends went on Priceline at the same time and put their own bids in (if they also had the bonus cash), for the exact same star level and bid price, that we would get the same hotel?

There is history of two people putting in bids within minutes of each other and getting different hotels. Simply no guarantees. I did bid separately for my son and myself (different city) with my stay 5 nights and his the 1st 2 of my stay. Did land the same hotel.

Another way to play that bonus is to bid for everybody for just two of your nights (assuming you are willing to chance a move). To give you an idea of the possible rate difference, right now a 4* HOTWIRE South Strip is $78 for all four nights. But it is $111 and $48 respectively for the weekend and week nights. You can continue to bid within the same session if you change your dates. But first close your browser to get everything "unclicked".

Imagine that the hotel only has loaded one room (or any amount less than four) into PRICELINE's inventory... once that number of rooms is purchased there would be no inventory left for the subsequent purchases, regardless if the "BOOK MY HOTEL ROOM" button was clicked within millliseconds of each other.

Please note that you can still use your Bonus Cash along with the board's PRICELINE links as follows...

1) click the PRICELINE link on the board

2) go to the MY PROFILE >> MY REWARDS link at the top right of their home page

3) use the bonus money link in the MY REWARDS section of your profile (not a link from an email) and bid as usual

Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. (and ask your friends to stop by the board and use the links there for their bidding as well)

Thanks.
