The highest rated hotel currently offered in PRICELINE's Blackhawk zone is 2*. HOWEVER, this can change at any time so if you're intending to use this zone at a re-bid zones it's important that you know how to check this on your own, as you double check your re-bid zones before each bidding cycle to make sure that nothing has changed since you last checked. See Priceline Re-Bidding Explained for information on how to determine your re-bid zones at the highest star rating available in each zone, or if you're confused by the information at the previous link post back and we'll break it down for you.

Best guess for this HOTWIRE property would be the La Quinta Inn and Suites Rapid City.

  • 2 months later...

We recently booked through Priceline 2 rooms for 3 nights at the La Quinta Inn & Suites in Rapid SD as follows:

Dates of stay Sep 17-Sep 20, 2012.

Offer Price: $ 65.00

Room Subtotal: 390.00

Taxes & Fees 57.06

Total Charged to Card: $ 447.06

Nowhere on the confirmation does it mention a resort fee.

When we checked in there was no mention of a resort fee and to our knowledge we did not sign anything accepting this additional charge.

We just received our credit card statement and we had two charges to the La Quinta Inn for $23.95 each.

We called the La Quinta and they told us this charge was a resort fee of $ 7.95 per night for each room. They said the resort fee would have been quoted to us by Priceline and would have been on our confirmation.

Can someone assist us with the steps we should take in order to get these charges cancelled and credited back to our account?

Thank you.

While i'm not familiar with this property so can't comment on whether they off 'resort-like' amenities, getting the charges refunded will be an uphill climb as you do agree to resort fees before you submit your PRICELINE bid. At the bottom of the page when you review your bid before submitting, under IMPORTANT INFORMATION is the following:

The reservation holder must present a valid photo ID and credit card at check-in. The credit card is required for any additional hotel specific service fees or incidental charges or fees that may be charged by the hotel to the customer at checkout. These charges may be mandatory (e.g., resort fees) or optional (parking, phone calls or minibar charges) and are not included in your offer price.

On PRICELINE's website the word 'charges' above is a link which further gives this text:

Charges

Depending on the property you stay at, you may also be charged (i) certain per person, per room or percentage based mandatory hotel specific service fees, for example, resort fees (which typically apply to resort type destinations and, if applicable, may range from $10 to $40 per day), energy surcharges, newspaper delivery fees, in-room safe fees, tourism fees, or housekeeping fees and/or (ii) certain optional incidental fees, for example, parking charges, minibar charges, phone calls, room service and movie rentals, etc. These charges, if applicable, will be payable by you to the hotel directly at checkout and are not included in your offer price. Please contact the hotel directly as to whether and which charges or service fees apply.

Given that you agreed (knowingly or not) you'll have to decide if you still want to pursue this, but going to PRICELINE is probably NOT the right course since 1) their terms state that you agree to any resort fee, and 2) they are not the one who charged you. If you decide to pursue La Quinta you'll have to decide if your stance is that they don't offer resort amenities (ie- as per above i don't know this property so can't say) or take the stance that you weren't informed of the resort fee (although at most properties it is usually listed on any check-in form you sign)

Good luck.

So I guess my question now would be is how you determine how much you're going to end up paying for a room. You don't know in advance what motel you're getting so you can't do any research and it appear they can just add what they want to the cost of the room. It seems the bidding proess is just a starting price and you don't know the ending price until you get your credit card bill??

For the majority of destinations, you're able to see the total with taxes and fees before clicking and seeing if a hotel will accept. However, with a few general areas (Florida, Vegas, some California) resort fees are common and are not detailed until after the purchase, but are generally $10-25. Rarely are resort fees seen in other areas, but unfortunately this was one of those instances.
