Hotwire Hotel: The secret to Hotwire in Greenville

My wife and I live in the Greenville area, and use Hotwire once or twice a month for an overnight getaway. We've gotten so good at recognizing the various hotels that sell on hotwire that we're about 90% what hotel we have before we book. The key is to log in and look at the reviews.

1. Stay away from ANY hotel that says "We are still gathering reviews for this property." The only times we've been burned in Greenville have been when we "rolled the dice" on such hotels. Let someone else be the guinea pig. Too many hotels overrate their rooms, selling 2 star properties as 3 or 3.5 until they get a lot of complaints. If a hotel doesn't have at least a 90% recommend rating (and it does fluctuate some), then we avoid it.

2. In the Greenville Northeast (Airport) region, the 3.5 star hotel with the 90+ recommend rating is the Marriott on Parkway. Very nice hotel. Typical hotwire rates are $55-$80.

3. In the Greenville Northeast (Airport) region, the 3-star hotel with the 90+ recommend is the Courtyard by Marriott, also on Parkway. Also very nice. Prices range from $45-60.

4. In the Greenville Area, the 3-star hotel with the 90+ recommend is almost always the Crowne Plaza on Congaree, another nice property. Prices range from $50-65.

5. There is only one 4-star hotel in the Greenville South area, the Embassy Suites on Verdae. On a golf course, large rooms, GREAT free breakfast. Prices typically $65-105.

The percent recommendation shown by HOTWIRE are actually fairly unreliable in identifying hotels as they have been seen to change from one search to the next, as well as sometimes revert to 'still gather reviews' (even for hotels that on previous searches/purchases have had plenty of reviews). Even if this weren't the case, it would still not be that reliable since the reviews would change over time.
