belindai
Goal is least expensive 4* or better. What price range do u think is needed for a win 4*?Then would consider 3*, are you familiar with any of the three star properties? Are they ok? The ones on the border, do you know if they fall into the beach category? Link to comment
thereuare
With most of the 4*/Resort hotels showing very high rates or sold out for your dates, i think you're likely looking at more than $200 for a win here. If you want to try bidding up to $170 you can try:When bidding 4* in Waikiki you have THREE re-bid zones. If you're not familiar with re-bidding please read Priceline Re-Bidding Explained and feel free to ask questions and/or confirm your re-bid zones with the board before proceeding.(NOTE: 're-bid zone1' is not the same as priceline's Zone1, 're-bid zone2' is not the same as priceline's Zone2, etc, etc)Select 4* Waikiki Beach...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $140, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Waikiki Beach and re-bid zone2...Bid $145, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $150, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Waikiki Beach and re-bid zone3...Bid $155, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $160, if rejected close browser and use this link to re-access PRICELINESelect 4* Waikiki Beach and re-bid zone2 and re-bid zone3...Bid $165, if rejected add re-bid zone1...Bid $170Any questions feel free to ask. If the above is rejected we'll then look at 3.5* options and/or SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Let us know how it goes or if we can be of further help. belindai
Thanks for the details on bidding, really helpful to follow. I used the BB PRICELINE links.I bid $120-$160, with the rebid zones, then got this message:"We searched hundreds of options to find your hotel room, however we can't accept your offer of $160 per room, per night. Your credit card has not been charged for Request Number. If you are willing to raise your price by $67 to $227 per room, per night, you can try the same request again right now. Normally you are required to change additional items (add zones, star level, or dates) in order to try your request again. However we are able to extend this one-time opportunity to you because of the zone, quality level and dates you requested."I declined the offer. The full price of Hyatt 4* is $225. It offered 227. I have one more bid left at 165. A bid of $165 = $1171, which on hotels.com $1473 only $300 less. So I might leave the four star bidding there, unless you have any suggestions, splitting dates? When I selected 3.5*, it says there are no 3.5* hotels available.I am not sure about the 3* hotels, as mentioned above, can you give any advice on these hotels, as they are different to the reported wins, can you suggest a strategy and the likely wins one would win?hotels.com has the stay hotel waikiki for $900 total but on priceline it is 2*, some good reviews for basic motel style, no real amenities though. Thanks Link to comment
thereuare
If you are willing to raise your price by $67 to $227 per room, per night, you can try the same request again right now.The 'right' price is somewhere between $160 and $227... i'm guessing somewhere in the ~$200 area as noted above....unless you have any suggestions, splitting dates? Is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option? Have you tried out sister site MAPS and HOTELS.com which will give you a very easy overview of the area and see if there is anything close to your preferred location, as well as how much more/less it would cost to stay closer/further away as well as go up/down in star rating. When I selected 3.5*, it says there are no 3.5* hotels available.Where did you receive this message... PRICELINE (retail or bidding section) or Hotels.com, or some other location??I am not sure about the 3* hotels, as mentioned above, can you give any advice on these hotels, as they are different to the reported wins, can you suggest a strategy and the likely wins one would win?Not sure what you mean by 'they are different to the reported wins"??Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. belindai
Yes, I am thinking of splitting the dates. I have looked at hotels.com for map locations. Ideally want in the beach zone but may need to reconsider. The BB list of reported wins for 3* priceline hotels shows Ohana. Where as I am thinking these are older wins, with a hotel now called the holiday inn beachcomber Waikiki. The BB Hotwire list seems to be updated with names. I can't see the other two listed in Priceline retail and wonder too if they changed names. The Sheraton is not available on my dates. The other 3* hotels are pacific hotel etc but dont appear in the BB list as previosly reported wins. Are you able to advise if the seaside hotel and Hyatt place hotel fall in the central zone or beach zone, as I found it hard to tell on he map looking like on the border. The average retail price for 3* and 4* is similar, do you think they will both be around the $200 mark for a win?It said no 3.5* hotels on the retail side of Priceline for beach zone.. It does however let you select it on the bidding side but I don't know if there would be any hotels. None appear on the BB list. Thanks I will use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links. Link to comment
thereuare
We've updated the Priceline Hotel List with the name change of the Ohana Waikiki Beachcomber becoming the Holiday Inn Beachcomber.Keep in mind that the retail side of PRICELINE does not show all possible hotels available through the bidding side of their service... some hotels participate only on the retail side but not the bidding side, some in the bidding side but not the retail side, and some participate in both. You can't use the retail side of PRICELINE to determine what you will get when bidding (see the related link in our PRICELINE FAQ).Also, don't use the 'median retail price' shown at PRICELINE in your bidding strategy, it's often incorrect/flawed and not meaning in a bidding strategy.Let us know if you'd like to next try SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID, lowering your star level, or considering other nearby zones... or if i've missed any information above that you need to help in making a decision. Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. belindai
Thanks for updating the Beachcomber.I tried searching online for Ohana Waikiki Tower and it seems to be demolished. I tried searching for the Ohana Waikiki Village and it brought up Embassy Suites Waikiki beach walk. Can this be updated too?Betterbidding priceline list3* Ohana Waikiki Tower 3* Ohana Waikiki Beachcomber (previously 2.5*) - Now Holiday Inn Waikiki Beachcomber3* Ohana Waikiki VillageFrom what I can determine:Waikiki Beach zone 3*Ashton Waikiki Beach $245Pacific Beach hotel $154->soldHoliday Inn Waikiki Beachcomber $229Sheraton Princess Kaiulani (previously reported in City Central)Waikiki City CentralSeaside hotel $135Hyatt place $224Courtyard by Marriott $264Aqua Waikiki Wave $191Best Western Plus Coconut $600Outrigger Luana Waikiki soldBut as you said, what is on the retail side isn't on the opaque bidding side. I am now thinking of bidding for 3* Waikiki Beach, can you suggest a bidding strategy with a max bid 150, is this likely or not?If I don't use the median price in bidding, how best to determine the initial bidding price? I tried searching for the Ohana Waikiki Village and it brought up Embassy Suites Waikiki beach walk. Can this be updated too?The Ohana Waikiki Village and the Embassy Suites are not the same property... when i have some time i will look into the current status of the Ohana properties. If I don't use the median price in bidding, how best to determine the initial bidding price? From real hotel prices (which is the idea behind the BiddingHelper.com ;) ). Take an area with three hotels prices $100, $150, $200.. the median is $150 but that doesn't provide you with good information given that there is a hotel in the zone priced at at $100. Have more hotels in the zone and the issue gets more complicated.I don't think $150 will be enough for a 3* property, but if you want to try you have ONE re-bid zones available at the 3* level.Select 3* Waikiki Beach...Bid $120, if rejected add re-bid zone...Bid $130If the above is rejected wait 24 hours and try again wtih $135/$140. If that is rejected wait 24 hours and retry with $145/$150.Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. belindai
I changed my dates 7/21-7/25.I decided if the prices are high to start bidding with resort for a max bid of 185, then lower to try 4*, then 3*. I previously tried 4* up to $160 and failed.I had $10 bonus cash. I bid $161, $170, $175, $178, $181, $185 (making it $195 with bonus cash) - getting the message "If you are willing to raise your price by $60 to $221 per room, per night, you can try the same request again right now" from bid of 161. I won the Sheraton Waikiki Bid $185 (Bonus cash $195). Said I saved 42%. Sheraton Waikiki was $206, then $210, then $215 on hotwire. Sheraton Waikiki priceline retail $320. The sheraton wasn't available on priceline retail when I first started bidding, only just became available now, two weeks prior to stay. I am happy with the Sheraton. Thanks for all your help.
