thereuare
Welcome to BetterBidding! If you haven't yet, please read your messages. For your previous bids, have you yet included Chelsea or did you stick with the other four zones? Is the ESB zone not acceptable as this zone is typically convenient and works out well for the average user. Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. watchtime
We have friends that live in Upper West Side and they suggested the zones. Getting 4* hotel for the best price takes precedence to location, so yes, we would be open to ESB.I tried all the options without Chelsea, then went back and tried with it.Thanks for your service, and I use your links - always! thereuare
At the moment you're probably just a bit shy of winning with your $220 bid, but let's add the ESB to your bidding to see if it helps at all and if not we'll weigh your options from there...At the 4* level you have SEVEN re-bid zones. watchtime
I went through the complete list today, up to $220 with no luck. This is 9 days before our arrival.Any suggestions? Would it be better to wait, if so when?A good tip: I set one of my default browser tabs to this thread, so it was easy to use your links every time I opened the browser. Thanks for your help. thereuare
Nobody can say if rates will come down, or move even higher, between now and your stay, but for a more indepth discussion on this subject see the related 'Bid Early or Closer to Arrival' in our PRICELINE FAQ.Although this is only a 3 nite stay, is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option? How high are you willing to bid, or wait, before lowering your star rating and/or SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID?Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board. watchtime
I think we'll try one more time at 4* but go up to $230.If we are not successful, then drop down to a 3.5* (eliminate CPS because of the Hudson Hotel)Thanks. I'll keep the post updated. Link to comment
thereuare
You should be able to simply add $10 to each of the bids about in the previous strategy. Thanks for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board.Good luck and let us know how it goes. watchtime
I upped the max to $240, started by adding $20 to each bid. No luck. Used your PRICELINE links. By the way, the Priceline Maps tools is real handy. We are going to now drop the star level down to 3.5*. Zones: TS, MTW, UWS, Chelsea, ESB, and add MSGAny other red flags besides the Hudson Hotel (CPS) and the walk from MTE at 3.5*?Would you be able to put together a bidding chart? It is real helpful to follow. Thank you in advance. Link to comment
thereuare
We are going to now drop the star level down to 3.5*. Zones: TS, MTW, UWS, Chelsea, ESB, and add MSGAny other red flags besides the Hudson Hotel (CPS) and the walk from MTE at 3.5*?Two to note:UWS- we don't see a lot of bidding at 3.5* and under in this zone so there is an increased likelihood of an 'unknown' property, and the zone does go pretty far north, which may not be the best location for the average userMSG- has the Affinia Manhattan which overall gets good reviews, there have been some reports of 'priceline/hotwire bias' where guests who book thru 3rd party websites have received rooms which are substantially smaller than all others in the house. Up to you if this would be an issue for a 3 nite stay or not.Let us know if you want to stick with the zones above or make any revisions and we'll suggest a new strategy to follow. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. watchtime
3 days prior to check-in, tried up to $275 for 4*. Nothing.2 days prior to check-in, tried up to $270 for 3.5*. Nothing.Looking at priceline results, there are only 3 choices to choose from if paying full price for 3.5*. This is probably the reason that during the 3.5* bidding, the "average medium price" was showing $1999 at times, and $579 at others.I noticed that the Hotel Indigo was now available for our dates, it wasn't when the other bidder first one it, but it popped in again today. I was hoping to get that, but no luck. (Update - I just called the Hotel Indigo to see if they had rooms and they do not.)1) Any suggestions? I'll try one more time on Tuesday (day before check-in) and see what happens.2) FYI -- In the bidding table you provided for 3.5*, there were duplicates. The $180-$190 range has the same starting zones as the $195-$205 range. Link to comment
thereuare
1) Any suggestions? I'll try one more time on Tuesday (day before check-in) and see what happens.Do you have a back-up reservation / plan? If so, where and how much? Since you've already been turned down at the 3.5* too, is SPLITTING YOUR PRICELINE BID an option at this point?2) FYI -- In the bidding table you provided for 3.5*, there were duplicates. watchtime
We do have a back-up. Thanks for making sure. It is the Dream Downtown (Chelsea), 4.5* for $325. Regular rate around 475 for Bronze King. This is way over budget, and the hotel is not really our style, but it was the only decent place I could find.I won't split. Is it even worth the time to try again? I figured within 24 hours people might start canceling. Priceline is only showing three 3.5* available and twenty 4* at their normal listing price. watchtime
Final Update:Tried 4* again, went to $310. No Success.Decided to stay with our back-up 4.5* at $325. Link to comment

watchtime
WOW, $310, nothing?!From one hotel that I called, the local reservation agent said there is some fashion event going on (FIT), and all of Manhattan is filled up. This was also probably the reason our flights were also difficult to book. Link to comment
thereuare
Sorry to see the bidding didn't work out this time around, but it certainly wasn't for a lack of trying... just an example of extreme rates during the busy Spring season. Thanks for keeping us updated along the way and have a great trip.
