Adolfo’s – Frenchmen Street – Owner/chef(works by himself) has really good seafood/creole italian at a good price. Place is small, but has downstairs live jazz while you wait. Expect to wait an hour so and no reservations. Worth the wait.

UpperEnd:

Galatoires: French Quarter – Classic NOLA – Must wear jacket in evening. Friday ALL DAY(3-4 hours of lunch/drinks/socializing with strangers) lunch is one of the best traditions in NOLA(Requires waiting in line starting at about 9, or as most people do, get your secretary or pay somebody $20 to hold your spot).

I personally like to see Jeremy Davenport at the Ritz Thurs-Sun right on the corner of Bourbon/Canal.

Monteleone has a nice carousel bar(actually rotates). Bit pricey but cool place.

Bourbon Street has 3-4-1 beer specials until 7 or 8 at many places. Razoo’s, The Beach etc. Just walk up and down the street till you find a place you like since open containers is legal. Bourbon is great and a must see, but it’s mostly tourists, but that doesn’t stop me from visiting it occasionally. Frenchmen Street has more live music and locals and is closer to what Bourbon St was 30 years ago.

- Pat O Brien’s is a cool place on Bourbon to get a hurricane and just hang out on the patio. Almost always stop by here for an hour or two every time I visit.

- Jax Brewery has good drink specials during the day and offers a good spot to watch sports and a view of the river. 6-9 $2 beers and 2-4-1 apps. Food is so/so.

- Walk On’s is a nice sports bar with fill your own taps at booths in the bar. Food is average at best

- Old Absinthe house is a decent hangout, but expensive drinks.

Gold Mine right off of Bourbon on Dauphine/St Peter you will find some more locals
