Even though "Suite" is one of the amenites, when I checked in I was given a regular hotel room (not a suite). The front desk explained I was booked into what they called a 550 DR (550 sq ft Deluxe Room). I mentioned that room is not on THEhotel's website and that I was expecting a suite. Apparently the 550 DR is used to accomodate overflow from Mandalay Bay (which has 550 DR rooms). After a few minutes discussion "in the back" the front desk clerk moved me to a standard suite with a full Strip view. There was no comparison between the rooms. In my opinion, the smaller room wouldn't qualify this as a 4.5* hotel. (I suppose that is supported by the fact that Mandalay Bay doesn't have "Suite" as one of its amenities and that it is currently listed as a 4*).

Very nice result for this Vegas property! Glad to hear that the situation was able to be worked out, as well - if they did not give you a suite as listed, you could also have called HOTWIRE.

I'm having a similar issue at TheHotel, I booked some time ago for October 6 and just received an email today indicating that "my room type was no longer available". It appears as though I've been downgraded to this "deluxe room". Do you think it would help to contact Mandalay directly to see if they can guarantee the suite? Or should I just take the refund and look elsewhere? Pretty bummed, as we have another couple already staying at Mandalay and now we might be at different properties...

I don't think its going to do you any good to call The Hotel. They are the reason you are getting this email, not HOTWIRE. I myself would cancel the reservation if I could still get a good rate somewhere else.
