fly_up_front
Hotwire is showing a 3* for Newark Intl Airport EWR (mid-scale hotel) with just shuttle, pool, restaurant, fitness for $51 for June 18-25.Packages shows no hotels with this description. Any guess as to what this might be?Also, is this the best zone to commute into NYC? Link to comment
thereuare
Assuming you will commuting via mass transit, it's not a very good place to commute into NYC from.Few reasons:-the zone is quite large, so not really sure where you will end up within it-mostly highway, so can't really walk anyplace in the nearby area-PATH train is a good vehicle to use to get to NYC, but how will you get to the PATH train? more than likely you would need to take the hotel shuttle to EWR and then: a) take the train or shuttle to NYC (expensive if you're doing it everyday), :) take mass transit to to Newark Penn Station to get the PATH into NYC (taking shuttle to airport, public bus to train station, PATH to NYC will get old real fast... not to mention the time involved)Obviously Jersey City is your best bet, if that doesn't work then the Secaucus/North Bergen/Meadowlands area is viable.... but without a car getting to this area from EWR is going to be either a pain or a hassle. treasuretrail
I'm also thinking about booking a room around the airport (either the country inn suites or the four point sheraton) for two nites. Is it possible to first hire a taxi from hotel to the PATH station and then further with the subway to manhattan? Link to comment
thereuare
You can higher a taxi to take you anywhere, the question is whether the cost and inconvenience are worthwhile. In my opinion they're not, as you're looking a 1 hour+ commute each way. fly_up_front
Is it possible to first hire a taxi from hotel to the PATH station I asked the Four Points front desk guy this very question and he said it would cost $20 one way (which seems high to me) and that it would make sense with 3 people but not one.He said the best option for one person is hotel shuttle/PATH. dahammer
so the Sheraton 4 Points shuttle will take guests to Newark's Penn station? This is the closest PATH station, Link to comment
fly_up_front
I didn't write that clearly enough - hotel shuttle to airport, airport to Newark Penn Station by NJ Transit, PATH to city. Cost per person total is $8.30 each way.Hotel shuttle won't take you to Newark Penn Station (although that would be a great marketing tool). Link to comment
dahammer
The free shuttle to EWR is a great deal, I used Hotwire last year to stay at the Comfort Inn and Suites on McCarter Highway in Newark, they contract with a van service and charge $7.00 for a one way trip to/from Newark's Penn Station (1-3 passengers) and $10 for a one way trip (one passenger) to/from Newark Liberty Airport. This is not a great neighborhood, BTW. :) The Comfort Inn and Suites shows up as a 2.5* with the following amenities: Complimentary Breakfast, Fitness Center, High-Speed Internet Access.
