Hi,

My name in Harry (from The Netherlands Europe) and its been 4 years since i was here. A special hello to Thereyouare! I Hope all is OK with you and you'r family.

I am gooing with a friend to Las Vegas on januari 20 2011 to februari 10 (depends on the flight) so 20 nights.

Since my friend is very poor i am paying for him, But there is really no option to stay in 1 room as he snore's terrible :o

so i am gooing to book 2 rooms.

I was in Vegas in 2006 and planned to stay 3 nights but they became 14 Nights :) and i gambled away 30 $ :)

I saw an offer on Priceline for the stratosphere hotel for 35 $ so total 1400 for 2 rooms for 20 nights.

Do you think that by bidding i can beat this ? I know the area were Stratosphere is located and that is not a problem.

I am also gooing to pick up a rental car at arrival at the airport. I called the Hotel and they told me a daily fee of 7,50$ per room per day will be charched.

We will be dooing a LOT of driving and want to drive to San Francisco, zion, G Canyon, Moument valley Antelope Canyon etc etc. ( I know its FAR!) but we have plenty off time.

I saw a package offer on Hotwire for Hotel and Car 1200 per person but that is pretty much compared to Priceline.

I also checked the date's on the Hotel directly and they are average about 50 $

Does anyone think the 20$ ore 50$ trick will have a chance? since we are staying 20 nights.

I also looked at The Flamingo Hotel, which will be about 50$ a night.

Why the Stratosphere? as i said we have a car, there is a lot to do in the Hotel, parking the car will give no problems. there is unlimited Tower acces. and we basically use to room to sleep, While on the way we can always look for a room ( especially in SF ore Monument valley area ( ore flagstaf ) but we dont want to plan each day. We will decide from day to day what we are gooing to do.

Since we are staying that long i also consider an upgrade for 1 suite and 1 bedroom if i book it now it will be about 98 for the suite and 35 a night for the room. But we can always try to get an upgrade on arrival.

Anyone any idea;s ? what would be an average price for a car (economy) for 20 days? i gues about 400$.

Thank you for you'r attention. I must sleep now its 04.34 in the night here.

Harry

Sorry for my english :)

PS if i am gooing to book i will use the PRICELINE ore HOTWIRE links from this board.

You can try to beat the $35 PRICELINE rate by bidding, but given PRICELINE's booking fee, it may be tough to beat.

Current car rental rates look like ~$400 for a non-major brand rental... a rental from one of the major players will likely run you close to $550 at the moment.

It will be harder to get an upgrade (complimentary, $20, or $50) based upon the length of your stay... unless the hotel has low occupancy and is looking to 'reward' you for a longer stay.

Thank you for the answer!

We might change plans.. I dont know if this is the right forum? Maybe i should continue on tripadvisor for more questions about area and plans.

We will fly with the dutch KLM a ticket is 546 euro and it doesnt matter when you fly price is always the same.

So we also are thinking leaving sunday januari 24 and gooing back februari 14.

It would be nice to spent some days and a weekend in the centre of the strip so i searched on Priceline and Hotwire for thoose days. (edit arrival januari 24 checkout monday januar 31)

Priceline now gives 30$ Per Room for the Stratosphere But also The Flamingo for is there for 46$ ( per room). ( a Go room will be 80)

We are both single guys and are friends for almost 40 years and we have been on hollidays allover Europe many times. We dont give to much about a 5* luxe room, But we do like a clean room were we can have a good nightsleep, and as i said we really have to get 2 rooms. ( ore a Condo with 2 bedrooms ?)

What do you ppl think : we can leave on sunday, have a quiet week in Vegas ( if that is possible) :) with a weekend. Then drive to Flagstaf monday januari 31, stay in that area 4 due 5 nights and do all the main atractions such as G Canyon, Monument Valley etc etc. Then return to Vegas.

The advantage of the Flamingo is that it is right in the perfect location! and doenst do a resort fee ( Stratosphere has 7.50$ )

Also if we take the Flamingo we dont need a car the first week ( again saves money) :)

I forgot to tell in 2006 i was in The Stardust Hotel ( checked in directly at the lobby for 49 $ then)

I liked the Stardust a LOT!

Do you think thoose prices on Flamingo ore stratosphere can be beaten with name you'r own price ? I loved the challence then in 2006 bidding for a New York Room :o

Sorry again for the long story , But i hope you will understand what i mean.

I would take the Flamingo over the Stratosphere... the location alone makes it a much better choice, imo.

The problem bidding on PRICELINE is what if you land a different 3* hotel which you might not like as much OR one with a high resort fee?

Hello again thereuare :)

Thanks again for the answer.

Our shedule now is steady and it will stay that way!!

we are gooing on Sunday januari 23 from Amsterdam to Las Vegas, Return to Amsterdam at februari 14.

As you said indeed i agree the flamingo is a much better choice as the Stratosphere.

So we will arrive at LV at 14.30 am januari 23.

I want to book 2 standard rooms at the Flamingo from arrival to monday januari 31. total = 8 nights. ( will the 20 ore 50$ trick work?)?? :)

I just checked again on priceline for 2 rooms and the Flamingo now has 45$ per room .

I am a bit amazed also because if i book directly from the booking site on the Hotel it gives a promotion code.

https://www.harrahs.com/MakeReservation.do?...Homepage_708x66

If i book from directly it is only a very few dollars more then dooing it due Priceline. (22 dollars)

In some way ( i dont know if i am correct)? I think i have a better chance for an upgrade if i book directly to harrahs then doooing it on priceline. Any idea?

I looked at your support page but unfortunately Flamingo is not on it(:

I havent booked yet but do you have a better idea? For me about Vegas Hotels? as i currently have in mind?

2 rooms check in : Sunday januari 23, Check out Monday januari 31.

Thanks again for your time ! You have build a really GREAT board in time with loads of pearls/jewels /diamonds of information. !

I love it also that this board is not overloaded with pop ups and adds! its a Fantastic thing you run !

PS you helped me a lot in 2006 , i again apologize i never gave any feedback.

PS 2 from januari 31 to februari 3 ore 4 ( 4 nights in Flagstaff) Should i open a new topic in Arizona travel ore keep it here central in this topic.

Many greetings from The Netherlands!

and IF IF thereuare IF you ever will visit my country i would be honoured and glad to be you'r host.

PS ( i first did not even dare to mention it :) I love to see beautifull woman , and i hope the chance off seeing thoose are bigger at the Flamingo as in the Stratosphere, although they have the Vampire Bite show there :o :D

Take care!

I'm seeing the Flamingo for a few dollars cheaper on i4Vegas but if you think your chances for an upgrade are better if booking directly thru the hotel then you should just book that way... may even be able to book direct and then try their best rate guarantee.

Let us know if any changes in your plans or if we can be of further help.

Thanks for checking the support page and for using the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links for your future purchases.

Hi Thereuare, i tried the link you gave me but i see 47$ now Priceline gives 45 and Flamingo direct gives 47 also.

I dont know to much about if the hotels on checking at the lobby do see a difference between Priceline customers and the one's direct booking to the hotel..

You are the expert :)

Its fun looking to try to save a few dollars! I tried a 5 star hotel starting at 50 ( You never know!) Ive seen this post were someone got The Venetian for 44:) It Might happen to me also.

I also still wonder : if i book Flamingo for 46 a with fully options to cancel i can play a more on bidding for a 5 ore 4 * .. its like a fruit machine 777 :)

I will keep you updated!

Thanks a lot again Your help and answers are highly appreciated!

Have a great time in Vegas.

TY Thereuare we sure wil!

before i create a new topic for flagstaf i am still looking and thinking what to do.. It depends also on the weather conditions a LOT.. The plan is after leaving Vegas to drive to the Grand Canyon, so i am looking at Hotwire and Priceline deals for the area.

Not sure yet if we do 1 ore 2 nights ( 1 room ore 2) is undecided. As visiting the GC is only one ore maybe twice in a lifetime we wont save on money, better a good nice BIG room very close ore in the GC then trying to go the cheapest way. I read a lot of reviews on tripadvisor and some scared me .......( espacially in Flagstaff)

So i am looking at Williams and Tusayan now.

I rented a car on a dutch (netherlands) site. it was 379 euro ( all in) inclusive also all insurance. Its a car from Alamo ( economy)

Pick up wednesday februari 2 at 10.00 drop off februari 14 at 09.00 I can cancel without a penalty. I dont think i can get it cheaper at PL ore HW.. ( i can but european Credit cards dont cover insurance.

Ill keep you updated and of corse if i search ore book i will use the support page links on Betterbidding.

Have a nice day! and again thanks for all the help!

Edit: just was in my mind... Supoose the weather conditions are really bad and it is almost impossible to get to the area will Priceline refund my booking ? ( Grand Canyon area) ?

I haven't heard of this being much of an issue in this area. By terms of use, PRICELINE reservations are non-refundable, but if there is some sort of 'disaster' (ie - hurricane, flight stoppage, etc) PRICELINE has been pretty understanding, but this is on an event-by-event basis... if you're concerned about the weather then you should probably book direct something that is refundable OR bid closer to your trip.

Thanks for using the PRICELINE, HOTWIRE and support page links.

Thank you for the answers!

One thing, we fly back monday februari 14th I noticed that for that weekend both on HW as on Priceline the cost almost is twice as high.. Stratosphere 75, Flamingo 88 is that a special weekend?

I would like to book the last 2 ore 3 nights also in Vegas, maybe i should wait and prices will drop again ? No idea.

Of corse it can also be nice to have a 4 ore even 5 star hotel the last 2 nights so i might try to do bidding for that.

About the Grand Canyon area i am still looking. I will probably try to get 2 rooms in Tusayan ore Williams for 2 days.

(Still reading reviews) If you arrive late and leave early it doenst matter that much how the hotel is ( as long as it is clean and safe and not noisy) But staying more as one night is different i think, then i would like to have a nice hotel room.

I also searched for cottage's and cabins but thoose are far to expensive. Tried to find a condo with 2 bedrooms but cant find one.

Ill keep you updated! Probably from the C Canyon we will drive to Monument Valley, and from there on ore in the direction Montery for Highway 1 coastal ore to Page ? were antelope canyon is situated.. Still dooing preparations and a lot of searching.

Many regards from the netherlands.

Monday, February 14 is Valentine's Day. I'd guess people might include the weekend before it for a special holiday trip?

Off Corse! Here in europe we dont do much about it.. ( its not a very special day)

I just looked again on PL and HW and the rates are pretty funny.. some 2 * hotels not even on the strip are over 140$

while the trump is at 101.. Seems Downtown Freemont rates still look pretty normal..

Might be an option to book pay when you stay rooms to be sure and then look further!

Thanks Romelle!

Hi Thereuare

I have cancelled my 2 rooms at the Flamingo.

I got a wonderfull offer from the Tropicana! ( someone from work has family working there)

same dates 8 nights 2 rooms 400$ (Total! for both ) that is some offer! dont you think!

If i caused any inconveniance i am sorry. But i couldnt resist this offer.

I even got a promise that if the Tropicana is not fully booked we might get 2 suite's!!!

Thereuare i greatly appriciate all the work you do and helping me.. and I will make a donation after all preparation is ready.

I now can find something nice in Tusayan and Page!

last weekend ( Februari 10 to 14) probably also will be tropicana.

Thanks a lot for all the help!

Glad to see you found something which works even better for your plans.

The Tropicana is tired, but at half the price of the Flamingo, appears to be a good deal/value.

Just continue your existing Hotwire hotel thread for help with the Tusayan/Page leg of your stay.

Thanks for the update and good luck with the suite upgrade.

Thank You!

I have to disagree with you about the Tropicana beeing "tired" :)

They have done a MAJOR renovation at the complete resort!

The rooms are really nice now! The renovation is nearly complete , The Casino and the towers are done,

They are now dooing work at the pool to have a "Nikki Beach" which will open in Spring 2011.

I am pretty sure Tropicana will be 4* after all is ready.

The reviews on Tripadvisor last months all are really great!

What is also lovely is that a Nicole (manager for Tropicana) is commenting personally on almost all the reviews on Trip Advisor. ( in a very nice way also!) :)

The Hidden picture's guest did take really show great spacious rooms with a 42 LCD TV and lovely beds and lovely decorated rooms.

Maybe you should try also getting the Tropicana on the support page for this board

Take Care

many regards from the Netherlands

Hi,

I check hotwire rates every day ( especially for the 4 nights Februari 10 until 14 for 2 rooms,

(thursday to monday) ( last 4 nights of my holliday.)

I just noticed a 4* downtown hotel came up for 69$ a night . I supoose this is the Golden Nugget ?

I also noticed that yesterday a lot of 4* hotels on the strip could be choosen and now ZERO!!!

And the trump is now 139$ ( was 95) and 5* Strip North (with casino) is now 169$ (was over 200$)

Seems a bit strange to me that Trump went up 40+$ and 5* casino went down 50$.

I checked priceline also ( but no change's in what they offer) its identically almost 10 days.

I tried yesterday just for fun to bid on a 5* hotel following the topics i saw. I started with 50 :o

Of corse denied :) and i went up to 75 ( with adding zone's) I thought well who doesnt try doesnt win :)

I also tried 4* hotel at strip North and south starting 40 and ending at 60$ .

Off corse that was denied also :)

But it was funny to bid :D

I will keep trying to get a 5* for 60$ ( although i know this is almost impossible) Lol

Take care and again this is a great helping board!

About Hotel fees

(posted in the other topic also if its not Ok then feel free to remove this post) :)

To be honest thoose fees seems rather silly for european people. We are used to see the complete price as offered on a website, papers Tv and others THEN nothing more will be charged ( also no taxes).

We have a law in the netherlands that forbids companies for flighttickets and more to do a internet advertisement ore TV ore papers for an certain amount of cash, and when you try to book it the price does raise due taxes fees and more.

It is ruled by a law here that what you see is what you get (Espacially with airplane tickets) Thoose who sell the tickets ALWAYS have to put the complete price in an offer.

I think this is very OK! because if you seek on prices now you cannot be surprised.

In the past it happened when you searched for a ticket lets say from Amsterdam to Las Vegas on lowest price you saw one for 200$ but when you tried to book it it went up to 500.

It was very confusing that way.

Now its very easy! Just search for the price and THAT IS! the price. ( nothing more can be charged).

So Dutch websites that offer tickets for a very low price ( but after you tried to book raised skyhigh) are all down now.

  • 1 month later...

Hi there,

have a wonderfull christmas!

I tried many times to bid on priceline on a 5* date februari 10 to februari 14 so for 4 nights i went up to 125 and all was rejected so i give up. Besides that i have read some reviews about the Palazzo that they are selling ivory in one of their shops ( is that legal???) over here it is completly forbidden! And the hotel management reacted not nice on ppl who were angry to find ivory in the shops, so i dont want a chance to win the palazzo! :)

On priceline retail now the stratosphere shows up at 45$ ( i am thinking about booking 1 room, because we also have the Riviera on same date's so thats not far walking (although we have a rental car). I forgot to mention i think about the car i rented it in the netherlands for 22 days ( from arrival to depart) for 408 Euro ( all in).

Is there a way to get the stratosphere cheaper ? I dont want to take the risk to bid on a 3*

In page i have booked 2 nights at debbie's hideaway for a 3 bedroom appartment with kitchen and livingroom for 49$ inclusive breakfast and fees and taxes! ( i phoned) thats not bad i think and the reviews are OK.

The advantage for the strato is that the tower admission is free ( i love beeing on the tower and see the crazy ppl there dooing crazy rides and bungy jumping. so i really am thinking to take the strat since its our last weekend in the USA.

Thanks for all advice and tips.

Take care and have a great 2011.
