david_tn
Hi,I'm visiting NYC for 2 nights in 2 weeks and hoping I can find a 3* or 2.5* for $75 - $100. Appreciate any help on bidding strategies.I wouldn't mind staying in any of these areas - MTE, MTW, ESB, MSG, TS, Chelsea, Hell's Kitchen or CSP.Thanks,David Link to comment
yellowdog
Please follow-up your previous Hotwire Chicago thread with whatever you ended up doing for that stay... then bump this thread and we'll have a look at the above.Allways follow-up your threads with whatever you end up doing, even if you chose to book direct, cancell your trip, etc. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.Yellowdog.PS. Please post your dates for the NYC stay. Link to comment
david_tn
Hi Yellowdog,I'm usually pretty good about posting my results - I have posted some results for HOTWIRE from before using this site. I understand it would be hard for this site to be useful if folks don't post the results.Anyway, I ended-up not using either PRICELINE or HOTWIRE since rest of my family/ friends were staying at another location and was forced to pay the hotel rate ... will update the post. Not sure how to 'bump' the thread?NYC dates are 08/21 - 08/23.Thanks,David Link to comment
thereuare
We typically don't recommend bidding under 3* in NYC as while there may be some hotels which satisfy your needs, there may some which do not, and with PRICELINE you can't choose which type you will get. With the above noted, you know your 'temperament' better then we do and just how much you're willing to tolerate, so it's up to you what minimum star rating you feel is most appropriate.Do you want to try for a 3* up to your limit first and then, if rejected, try for a 2.5*... or is your goal the last expensive 2.5* or better for this stay? Also, i'll add that sub-$100 isn't very common in NYC, but your best chance would likely be Downtown, but not sure if this is an option for you or not (or if you want to try adding DT only after failing at 3* and before dropping to 2.5*... or only if after failing at 2.5*... or not at all)Let us know how you'd like to proceed and we'll take it from there. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. david_tn
I want to try for a 3* up to my limit first and then, if rejected, maybe try for a 2.5*. Also I would like to try options other than DT first, I would prefer failing for 2.5* in other areas before trying for 3* in DT. Thanks! Link to comment

david_tn
I got the Affina Shelburne in ESB area for $120 per night ($150 total). Though it was a little higher than my budget, I think its a nice hotel. Any idea about this place? Thanks for the help! Link to comment

dbrode1
If rejected, what does using the re-access URL do? Doesn't PRICELINE still have a record of what I've just bid?Sorry, kind of new to this. Many thanks.... Link to comment
AaronJB
I haven't stayed there, but I believe it was renovated in the last year or two, and it does get very good reviews. This is a nice area of NYC not too far from Grand Central. Link to comment
thereuare
Re-accessing PRICELINE allows you to UNselect zones previously selected... duplicate bid rules still apply, but by following the strategy above each of those bids are a unique combination and therefore not viewed as duplicates. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases. Why would you want to remove some zones and rebid? Also what do you mean by duplicate? Link to comment
thereuare
Why would you want to remove some zones and rebid? To gain extra bidding opportunities. If you're not having any problems with the bidding strategy posted in your Priceline NYC thread then i don't think this is an issue you're having... if you are having an issue with the bidding strategy posted, please reply to your own thread so that we can provide details using your own bidding strategy as an example. Also what do you mean by duplicate? You can only make the same bid once every 24 hours, if you attempt to make the same bid inside of 24 hours, it's considered a duplicate bid and PRICELINE won't process it, instead giving you a message that you have already made that bid within the last 24 hours. Please use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases.
