Priceline Hotel: Extended stay offer

Hope this doesn't sound silly or paranoid and I'm correct in starting a new topic.

My bid was won at The Hudson Hotel at $160.00 for 3 nights. They offered to extend the stay for the same price per night. When I checked the 'select new check-in date' I put in 6/17. It automatically gave me a check-out date of 6/20. Am I correct in assuming that this individual 3 day block will be added to my already pre-paid 3 days. Will I have to change rooms? How long do these offers last?

Or... do you think I can do better with bidding in a different area for 6/17 to 6/20? My first choice areas were Downtown/Soho or MTE. I stopped the bid at $155.00 then resumed by changing my dates.

BTW... The reason I chose to break up my stay was I was having NO luck for 6 nights together. I stopped bidding at $170.00 in all zones except Times Square.

This forum is awesome. Thanks. :)

Because the "extend your stay" option was offered does not necessarily mean that they have availability for those nites, but any offer you make from that screen would be at the same hotel. In most instances you won't need to change rooms during the stay, but you often have to stop by the front desk on 'switch day' to officially check-out and then check-in again.

The offer stays "live" and you can refer back to the offer anytime beore 11am of check-out of your original reservation and within 120 days of your original offer (i don't think either apply in your situation) but you can only try it once.

If you prefer to stay Downtown i would try bidding for that area first (we can suggst a strategy if you'd like) up to the amount of your winning Hudson bid, but i wouldn't count on that being a "good" figure as rates at the Hudson for your remaining nites are about $100 more per nite than the nites of your winning bid. If you don't mind changing hotels, or if you prefer a different zone, the i would certainly try bidding separately first, up to the price of your Hudson win, then try to extend the stay (which would be a good deal if accepted, imo), then if that is turned down re-evaluate your maximum bid and bid the zones you're interested in.

The extended stay offer was denied.

I have always been bidding in the NYC area but after some research I have found that I would like to try the Jersey City area 3* hotels since the commute seems effortless. I'm really stumped as to what the re-bid area could be because it seems there are 3* hotels in all areas and I'm afraid I would wind up somewhere else. (Not good since I need to be close to the PATH)

I don't see people giving thier bidding strategy in the NJ forum like they do in the NYC forum so I resorted to posting here.... how do I bid to secure a 3* in Jersey City? It seems the Grand Hyatt is a big winner and I'd love to land my stay there. My dates are June 17-20. (3 nights)

Right now I have been placing one bid then waiting 24 hours and increasing by $5.00. I'm at $125.00 with still no luck.

Thanks.

List each zone in the Newark area and the highest rating available in each zone, following this technique from Priceline Re-Bidding Explained:

The way to check what star levels are available in each zone is to open a Priceline page, check ONLY the zone you are inquiring about, and then proceed to the next page (as if you were going to select a zone)... this will give you the available star ratings in that area. You can then hit BACK on your browser, uncheck the current box, check the next box, and repeat the process. It is important to do this before EACH attempt at adding a zone that you really don't want, as new hotels can be added and the star ratings can change at any time. (NOTE: for most users Priceline has updated their interface making the above process easier... simply check a zone and note the highest star rating available within each zone, UNcheck that zone and checkmark the next zone, repeating the process)

... we'll then see where the error is occuring..

Aha! I never noticed the star level changing as I clicked on areas before. Clever! When I had been going thru' the pinned list I was confused by the notation in parenthesis about the Elizabeth area being considered the same as the Newark Airport area.

I may play with this until a few days before departure. I have a back-up hotel I booked thru' Hotwire but it's $100 a night more than I got for The Hudson.

What the heck...I'm still bidding in NYC too. :)

Thanks.

NEVER use the hotel lists to determine your re-bid zones as you could easily end up in an area you didn't intend... things just change much too quickly and there are some areas which are rarely bid (and therefore may have star levels not yet reported to the board).

From the top of every Hotel List on the board:

DO NOT USE THIS LIST to determine what areas to add when attempting to bid again within the 24 hour window (CLICK HERE for information on how to add cities in order to bid again).

The correct way to determine your re-bid zones is thru the method in the post above.

Glad you're 'on track' now :)

Well... here's my new dilemma and whiny complaint. :)

I think I already know the answer but I'd like to know if I'm correct.

According to the "Calender of Wins" feature the Hyatt has been won for $120 on 6/17, $120 and $148 on 6/18 and $148 on 6/20. I have bid 6/17 to 6/20 up to $200 and have gotten NOTHING!! My guess is that because the 17th to 20th is in the middle of the week Priceline doesn't 'give up' the hotel unless it's attached to a weekend (or at least closer to the weekend).

I have a backup booked (more $$ than I'd like to spend) so I guess I'm asking advice on what to do? Bid the 17th, 18th, and 19th by themselves and hope for the best or bite the bullet and keep the full price for the backup hotel?

First comment is that rates change all the time... one of the wins you reference was won over a month ago, so it's possible that rates have risen substantially since then.

The other commment, and more likely scenario, is that each of the wins you reference were for different dates than you own (the $120 wins started before yours and checks out before you, the second win commences in the middle of your stay and checks out after your dates). If you search the Hyatt website for the entire week, including the check-in/check-out dates of the other two wins, you'll see that rates start low (as low as $179/nite, JUMP for 3 of your dates to $379, and then go back down again)... so the higher prices of your own dates is likely causing the 'problem'.

What is the price of your back-up at the Hudson?

My back up for the 17th to 20th is at The Envoy Club I booked thru' Quikbook's link I saw here. It is at $259 a nite. I booked it a day or two after losing the extended stay offer at The Hudson. I believe the remaining nights (at the Hudson) were going for over $300.

I've been bidding for these three nights since then. It's just frustrating seeing a 'win' on all the nights I want but unable to get a the nights combined while offering nearly $50 more!

Oh well. Live and learn. Next trip to NYC will be a Thurs. to Mon. excursion! :)

I have bid 6/17 to 6/20 up to $200 and have gotten NOTHING!!

I doubt this will be successful, but perhaps worth a try (in case there is a 4 nite minimum in effect)...

The 3 nite bid for 6/17-6/20 at $200/nite comes to $600+fees and taxes. Why not try a $150 bid for 6/17-6/21 (the same $600 total room rate) and if successful just check-out on the nite of the 20th (or if possible extend your trip one extra nite). The 4 nite stay will likely cost you a few dollars more than the equivalent 3 nites stay due to some PRICELINE fee calculation (i'm guessing the difference wont be more than $5 or so). As well, since this is for different dates than you've been bidding, it won't affect any opportunities you have try your 3 nite stay.

If you choose to try this i'd bid $135 for the 4 nite stay, if rejected add your one re-bid zone, and bid $150.
