  8. Back in March i booked August and November flights... the first is fully refundable, the latter i get a credit to use for up to a year if i need to cancel. For August i figure i have nothing to lose, for November i know i can utilize the credit over the course of the following year (so again, nothing really to lose). Excellent rates for both!
  9. A very nice lesson for others! I always suggest booking RefundableRates... it never hurts, but it could help! Even if the rate today only looks 'ok', it may be a very attractive price later if rates continue to move higher.

  18. Just to confirm, NYOP is no longer an option on Priceline. After scouring PL's website and app, I finally chatted with a PL rep and was told the following: "Priceline has formally ended Name Your Own Price. This is a bittersweet moment for us, but the reasons are very straightforward. The vast majority of our customers no longer use it. They prefer to save money on Priceline in easier ways, such as through Express Deals and our new Pricebreakers feature." When I asked if was posted or communicated anywhere, or if it's new information, the rep said: "This is new information." As Plebian said, NYOP was great while it lasted.

  24. It's your trip, so you know your needs best, but why stay in Brooklyn if most of your time is going to be in Manhattan? The only reason to stay in Brooklyn would be to save money, and maybe a deal comes along that makes a Brooklyn stay worthwhile (you should also consider Long Island City, Hoboken, and/or Jersey City if there is a hotel along the waterfront (not all Jersey City hotels are well located))... but generally speaking i think you have just as good of a chance of getting a deal at a Manhattan hotel for about the same price. The issue that may hurt you in finding a Manhattan hotel would be that most charge resort fees now, so if Brooklyn hotels are not charging a resort fee, that will be the primary difference when it comes to budget. However, i'll reiterate that staying in Manhattan should be worth a premium, imo, you don't want to spend 10% of your vacation time commuting... and if coming to NYC, 'the city that never sleeps', why are you looking for some place that is 'not as busy'... your hotel will be quiet enough to offer you respite from your busy days. If you're not sure if this was indeed the Hilton or not, start using our BiddingHelper.com tool in order to search as it will indicate the likely underlying hotel for each offer. Just as an example, this 3 star Lower East Side - Chinatown hotel for $80/nite (appearing to be the Wyndham Garden Chinatown) would be a better option and worth the extra $20/nite vs. staying in Brooklyn. It's not the most central location in Manhattan, but it would be a better and more convenient option. Please remember to return to BetterBidding and use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPSandHOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. Your thoughts?
  25. Welcome to BetterBidding! We're happy to offer our thoughts and any insight we may have, and if a specific answer is not available we can discuss how things have been handled in the past in similar situations (although this situation is more extreme/severe/widespread that what we have seen in the past). For starters, have you see this Priceline Coronavirus page and tried the instructions regarding hotel cancellations? (airlines are discussed first... hotels are listed about halfway down the page) Is there a satisfactory response there to your situation, if not, what is the name of the hotel that you received? Please remember to return to BetterBidding and use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPSandHOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. Let us know how you make out with the instructions at the link above and we'll take it from there... we're happy to offer more help/assistance any way we can.
  26. Hi Beav, good to see you and glad you stopped by the board! (although sorry to see your previous photo/icon missing... did we lose that in a board upgrade??) There really has not been that much discussion about Priceline Bidding coming back to the system, although the thought has certainly crossed my mind, but i think it is way to early to speculate. Whether bidding returns or not i do think there are going to be some incredible deals to be had in the not-so-distant future (and are already appearing for those who want to, or have to, travel... or are willing to plan travel well into the future). The hotel industry has been so strong for the last 10+ years, occupancy levels high, and fewer and fewer unoccupied rooms to fill at deeply discounted prices that it has made it more difficult for the opaque providers to offer the value they did nearly 20 years ago when most of started to get involved with Priceline/Hotwire (deals have still been available, but they have not been as prevalent and not the screaming deals they were when bidding/opaque first came on the scene. With global travel coming to an abrupt halt the balance of supply/demand has quickly reversed direction, and once people start to travel again we may be seeing lots of deals that were 'as good as the old days'. Hope you and your loved ones/family are doing well and that things return to 'normal' more quickly than is currently predicted.
  27. Priceline now has online cancellation available as well, depending upon what hotel, airline, or cruise line you have booked with. More information can be found here: Priceline Coronavirus Cancel
