  6. I'm heading out in just a bit so i'll try to add more a bit later, but to get you started: July 4th - it's not going to be anything like your home town where you can bring a blanket and sit in the park... it's more likely going to be wall-to-wall people, some of who get there in the early afternoon in order to get a good spot. Depending upon your hotel room location you may have an excellent view of the large firework display that happens in Jersey City (at Liberty State Park). I'm not suggesting you head to Jersey City, but much of the Conrad faces the Hudson River and you may have a great view from inside the hotel (especially if on a higher floor). I would ask at check-in if you could have a room that might have a view of the fireworks... if you can get a good fireworks view from your room you may want to do that, if no view from your room then go with a backup plan, but realize it's going to be very crowded. Walking Tours - my favorite recommendation is to take the A or C train to High Street (first stop outside of Manhattan, in Brooklyn). Walk down the hill, bypass Grimaldi's Pizza and instead go to Julianna's (both will have a long line, you can google the history between the two, but given the long lines i like to get there just as they open so that we walk right in and don't have a long wait). Afterwards, you can continue down the hill to the water and get the kids (and yourself )dessert at the Ice Cream Factory. From there finish your cones/sundaes on the water, or walk while licking your cones, back towards the Brooklyn Bridge and walk the bridge back to Manhattan, taking in the Skyline view (and the Statue of Liberty) as you walk the bridge like a local New Yorker... just remember to stay on the correct side of the path to not get in the way of the bicyclists who often come speeding past. Economy Candy - 108 Rivington St lots of old time candy, bulk candies, novelties, etc... good prices (definitely try the dark chocolate covered graham crackers) Roosevelt Island Tram - nice way to see the city skyline all for the cost of a roundtrip subway ride Coney Island - it takes awhile to get there (figure an hour on the subway) and it might be fun if that's your thing and/or your kids like amusement park rides... to me i'm more fascinated that there is a 'real' beach just outside of Manhattan than i am enamored by the rides. I don't think many tourists necessarily make out this way as there are too many other things to do closer to (or inside of) Manhattan vs. the time it takes to get to Coney Island (but again, if beaches and/or an amusement rides are your thing, it something to consider doing) Statue of Liberty - if you want to see Lady Liberty and don't want to make a whole day out of visiting the island, the Staten Island Ferry (free) travels right past it making for a good photo opportunity. On the ride from Staten Island back to Manhattan i like to see at the front of the boat as we approach lower Manhattan. Great time to do this is to plan your trip so that you're returning back to Manhattan at dusk just as the lights of the skyline begin to illuminate, yet still bright enough outside to see things. Sailboat ride - once a summer we like to take THIS COMPANY'S saiboat ride from Chelsea Pier to the Statue and Liberty and back. Not as much a fan of their 'yacht' and 'architecture' tours, but we LOVE their sailboat rides (Adirondack or Schooner)... pull away from the dock and my stress is just left behind. However, know what this is... it is not a touristy sailboat ride pointing out the NYC sights, it's a relaxing trip with little narrative; just a great way to see the city from the water (ie- as an example, on one our trips a few years ago, we are approaching the statue of liberty and captain gets on the microphone, "if you look to your right you will see the Statue of Liberty... this concludes the sightseeing section of this trip"). ... and previously mentioned in a post above: Adrienne's Pizza Bar Questions / Comments??
  7. Some thoughts: 4.5* Times Square - Theatre District (<-- CLICK HERE and confirm your dates on the landing page) for $206/nite with ($207 for 2 Double Beds + Sofabed): Business Center Restaurant Free Internet Fitness Center Free Internet in public areas ==> New York Marriott Marquis... large, iconic, hotel right in the center of Times Square (not my favorite location but i understand how tourists would might want to stay here). This hotel is rarely seen so i would act sooner rather than later if this one is of interest (would also be an easy hotel to only have two guests go up to the check-in desk while the other two 'wonder' around) 4.5* Empire State Building Area (<-- CLICK HERE and confirm your dates on the landing page) for $256/nite with ($276/nite for 2 Doubles): Pets Allowed Restaurant Free Internet available Free Internet ==> Archer Hotel New York... admittedly i don't know much about the hotel itself, but it gets GREAT reviews and one of the top rated hotels in NYC; location is good with two different subway stations about 5 blocks away 4* HOTWIRE Madison Square Garden for $231.38 (search for 4adults) Free Internet Pet Friendly Fitness Restaurant Business Hi-Speed Internet ==> Crowne Plaza NY36 Midtown Manhattan; already mentioned above that gets excellent reviews and great location. Rooms are not that big, but typical for NYC. 4.5* HOTWIRE Rockefeller Center for $248.00 Pet Friendly Boutique Smoke Free Fitness Restaurant Business Hi-Speed Internet Golf Deaf Accessible ==> Omni Berkshire... solid hotel, i like location of others above a bit better, and this would be a fine choice if the you didn't have so many other awesome hotels to choose from 4.5* HOTWIRE Rockefeller Center for $260.00 Smoke Free Fitness Restaurant Business Hi-Speed Internet Blind Accessible Deaf Accessible Travel Accessible Room Accessible ==> Warwick New York... a bit 'historic' for my own tastes (i prefer newer and more modern hotels) but if this fits your style then it does have a great location and the hotel gets good reviews Thoughts on the offers above? I don't think you can really go wrong with any of these, if within budget my own choice would probably be the Archer simply because it is currently the #15 ranked hotel in NYC... but if didn't want to spend that much i would go with the less expensive Crowne Plaza HY36. Again, these are based upon my personal preferences and the types of hotels that i prefer, so if you feel that there is one above that would better meet your own style (and impress your in-laws) i think they are all excellent choices. 10. Note that things like 'Free Breakfast' and 'Room Service' are usually not amenities that are offered at the same hotels... free breakfast is offered more at 'mid-range' hotels (2.5*-3.5*) where has room service is typically offered at 4* and higher rated properties (yes, you may find some 3*/3.5* hotels that offer room service, but more often than not they won't offer free breakfast if they are trying to present themselves as a 'full service' hotel). What about Hyatt Place Colorado Springs/Garden Of The Gods for $158/nite or Colorado Springs Marriott for $215/nite (which would come down to about $205/nite after our Priceline Coupon)... or you could book one that you mentioned above, Best Western Plus Executive Residency Fillmore Inn on sale for $156/nite, well within your stated budget and one that you mention you would be happy with. (you do have somewhat specific needs, so you may even want to consider booking this one at $178/nite that is refundable up until the day before your stay, this way if nothing comes along between now and then, you at least have something that works for your needs and budget... should something 'better' appear on PRICELINE / HOTWIRE then you simply book that and cancel the refundable reservations) Any of these work for your needs? Please remember to return to BetterBidding and use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPSandHOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. 14. Congratulations on your success! A nice deal at a 'true' 5 star property. Thank you for sharing your winning priceline bid with the board. Please remember to return to BetterBidding and use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPSandHOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. Have a great trip... and good luck in Vegas!
  15. Best guess for the hotel in the link above is the Palazzo... although interesting that when i search i'm shown the Venetian. I'm guessing the price difference between the two rooms is one is 'standard' and the other may be a 'Strip View'... i'm fairly confident it's not a room on the Prestige Level. I've stayed at the Venetian/Palazzo many times and, imo, the cost of a strip upgrade is not worth it, imo, as you will spend more time outside of the hotel room in Las Vegas than you will inside the room staring out the window (and looking at the mountains and/or planes flying in/out of the airport is decent enough). However, if you decided that you do think it's worth the extra cost, the only problem is that the differentiation of view/no view is my guess and the room is not marked as such, so if you did receive a room that did not have a strip view there would be little recourse. 16. Welcome to BetterBidding! Two quick notes: 1) please use the US date format... so i assume your dates are OCTOBER 10 - OCTOBER 12? 2) most important information besides the star rating, zone and price is the amenities that PRICELINE EXPRESS associates with the property I believe this is the one you're referencing: 5* The Strip - Southwest (<-- CLICK HERE and confirm your dates on the landing page) for $109/nite with: Pets Allowed Restaurant Indoor or Outdoor Pool Fitness Center ==> Delano Las Vegas At Mandalay Bay would be my best guess for this one Please remember to return to BetterBidding and use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPSandHOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases. Let us know how it goes or how we can be of further help.
  17. Beatrix (https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g35805-d4481315-Reviews-Beatrix-Chicago_Illinois.html) is a very nice restaurant option for breakfast nearby. Will also recommend Siena Tavern (https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g35805-d3879063-Reviews-Siena_Tavern-Chicago_Illinois.html) and you're also not far from Xoco (https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g35805-d1533276-Reviews-Xoco-Chicago_Illinois.html.) As for pizza, the Lou Malnati's River North location isn't far (https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g35805-d427793-Reviews-Lou_Malnati_s_Pizzeria-Chicago_Illinois.html.) 19. Yes, this is the first leg of the journey. Got too many moving parts still to cover the remaining legs. Once I have more clarity, I'll cancel my conventional bookings and keep you updated on well I play the game.
  20. PATH train runs 24/7 so missing the last train isn't an issue, but is a bit inconvenient if flying into LGA (as you need to cross two rivers and get to the other side of Manhattan)... it's a more viable option if flying into Newark (EWR) or if arriving into Manhattan via train/bus. 28. Unfortunately there is no way to know if rates will drop or move even higher (and a third option, often not considered, is that maybe this hotel disappears entirely!) Your trip is during the start of peak season in NYC so the price is certainly reasonable (and i'd go as far to say the price is 'pretty good'), but based upon the criteria you laid out above and your other comments in this thread, i'm guessing that while price is important, it's even more important that it's a nice hotel... i think the bigger risk would be this property disappearing and nothing else that is as well reviewed being offered for a similar price. Given it meets every criteria you have i would lean towards booking sooner rather than later. Could the price go down $10-$20/nite, sure... but i could also see it increasing by $50-$60/nite (and i would think it very unlikely dropping $50-$60/nite) Please remember to return to BetterBidding and use the PRICELINE and HOTWIRE links on the board to begin your travel purchases... or thru our sister site MAPSandHOTELS.com for your regular rate purchases.
