  1. 1. That time is high season so expect to pay more. 2. Get a car and park it in a public lot (about $10/day). 3. You might consider Sunny Isles (30 mins away) or Ft. Lauderdale (1 hr away) as it is generally cheaper. 4. You also might have better luck the closer we get to Feb.
  2. MIDSIZE Pick-Up Location: Avis Rent a Car SAN FRAN APO CA P.o.box 8021 Int'l Airport San Francisco,CA 94128 1-800-230-4898 Drop-Off Location: Same as above Pick-Up Date: September 27, 2007 Drop-Off Date: October 1, 2007 Your Offer Price: $16.00 (per day) Total Rental Days: 4 days Subtotal: $64.00 Taxes and Fees: $41.69 Total Charges: $105.69 Lowest Published Price: $175.96 Total Savings:* $70.27 (You saved 40%) I saw that someone got it for $15/day for a 7 day rental. Because of a number of reasons (rental car companies have cheaper rates for 7 day rentals, rebid limitations, was in a hurry) I bid $16/day as my first and only bid. Compare with Hotwire for $135.99 (total) for the same rental. Thus, still represents a $30 savings over hotwire. Of course, much cheaper than booking through Orbitz and Expedia. BTW, I used the savings barn link this time. ;-) Sorry for not using it in the past.
  3. Started @ 75$ and bid up all the way to 160. My previous bid was 145. So their acceptable price is somewhere inbetween 145 and 160. San Mateo 1770 South Amphlett Boulevard San Mateo, California 94402 650-653-6000 Check-In Date: Thu, Sep 27, 2007 / After 03:00 PM Check-Out Date: Fri, Sep 28, 2007 / 12:00 PM
  4. I live in Miami Beach. FLL is about 1 hour from Miami. Public transportation between Miami and FLL sucks. Tri-rail is a bad idea. A cab will be well over $100. I'd really suggest flying into MIA as it is a lot simpler. If the cost is prohibitive, I'd then suggest you look into renting a car. That is about 30$ to 40$ including the taxes...and most companies do no assess a surcharge to return it to the MIA airport (assuming you picked it up at FLL). You could therefore pickup a car in FLL, return it to MIA the same day and take a cab or shuttle bus from MIA to where you need to go in greater Miami. If you want to keep your car for a couple days, I'd suggest you consider parking at one of the public garages. This is especially true for SOBE and not so true for NOBE. The public garages charge $1/hour or $8/day. Almost all the hotels will only valet ($25 - $35/night) and actually park your car in a public garage. This is very true for the garage on 17th and Pennsylvania in Miami Beach. Be sure to figure out where the closest garage is to your hotel before you chose this option. You don't want to do this if the closest garage is a mile away.
  5. First bid: 43$ - rejected Rebid for $12 higher? No, added an additional zone (bedford) that didn't have a 3*. Second bid: 45$ - accepted I didn't try 44$. Hotel's address: Halifax 1181 Hollis Street Halifax, Nova Scotia B3H 2P6 902-421-1000 Oh, it has a link to extend your stay at this same rate. I am not sure if that happens all the time now or is just something special for this case? Too bad I didn't get the 43$ price that others have been getting.
  6. I bid up to 39$ for a 3* (the higest available class in Saint John, NB). With taxes, it brought it to about 95$ for two rooms. No hotels accepted my bid. I then proceeded to book a room at the Country Inn & Suites By Carlson Saint John. I got a suite with a king and a fold out couch--instead of two rooms--for what I was bidding.
  7. There is nothing in downtown Miami. Besides, you can't walk to the port from downtown. You will be taking a taxi--albeit a short ride. If you are looking for a cheap hotel room, try going to coral gables or the grove. You should be able to get a four star for around 40-60$. South Miami Beach is also a fun place to stay but will be a bit more.
  8. Although it doesn't show in the pinned hotel list, there is a 4* that priceline offers in downtown Richmond. Not sure what it is because I didn't win. I bid all the way up to $131 (NOT including taxes). With taxes it was around $170. I therefore gave up on priceline for this. I got a room at the Jefferson (5*) from Travelocity for 186$ for a superior room with 2 double beds.
  9. Get a hotel AWAY from Busch Gardens and drive to the park. The hotels and the neighborhood sucks around there.
  10. Millennium Park, Loop & Grant Park Area Renaissance Chicago Hotel One West Wacker Drive Chicago, Illinois 60601 312-372-7200 Check-In Date: Saturday, May 28, 2005 Check-Out Date: Monday, May 30, 2005 I bid $137/night and didn't get it. I then bid $151/night and got it. In retrospect I wish I would have bid less that 151, now...but I had bid all the way up from 90$ in approximately 5$ increments so I was getting rather irritated. Oh well.
  11. Savannah Historic District 1 Resort Drive Savannah, Georgia 31402 912-201-2000 Check-In Date: Tue, May 17, 2005 Check-In Time: After 03:00 PM Check-Out Date: Wed, May 18, 2005 Got it for $115 a night.
